"ticking Cats"

Does anybody else have experience of loudly ticking catalytic converters or should I and my wallet be worried. The cats on my 97 sport have a noticeably loud tick even if the car has only been a short journey and not been overly warmed up. I put it down to cooling/contraction when the engine has been switched off but I've also heard the ticking when idling at lights whilst the car still running.

could well possibly the exhaust heat shields

they are just thin bits of metal and they do make a lot of noise

mines the same, funny when i told my daughter it was going to explode :)

i put it down to the exhaust cooling. but at least im not on my own

I was worried the first time I heard it, never heard that loud on any other car, but its nothing to worry about at all.

Common fault with this model sir, I came out from a blood test on Wednesday to find an elderly lady bent over trying to look under mine. I thought she had hit it in the car park at first.
