Pre-paid Service Plan

Recommended Posts

Having done some research on the prices of the next three (3) services our RX might require, I rang round some dealers to get prices and ifnormation - unfortunately got conflicting information and varying prices.

Some Dealers were quoting £840-odd (Swindon and Oxford) while some were quoting £740-odd (Woodford) while Milton Keynes and Croydon quoted £600-odd. Some said that it was possible to pay in monthly instalments, while others stated that you could pay in 10 equal monthly instalments while others yet said all monies had to be paid up front/in advance.

From the information I managed to cobble together, the 50 / 60 / 70 services were working out at about £150 / 380 / 150 (approx. average prices). So the individual total price was circa £680. Some Dealers were quoting that their Service price included Brakefluid Change, while others (like Milton Keynes, Oxford and Woodford) wanted £70 in addition to the cost of the Service.

In the end I contacted Lexus Customer Services and was directed to Inchcape (sp?) who administer the Pre-Paid Service Plans and they confirmed the following:

1. For my car and three (3) services, cost should be fixed at £606

2. All Dealers should be quoting this price.

3. As a Second Hand car I can only have Service only.

4. Monies must be paid all in advance.

5. No excess and price includes all costs for Service - if the shcedule includes BFC then it would be included and I wouldn't have to pay any more.

6. I cna pay by Credit/Debit Card etc. and plan can only be bought from a Dealer (ie: not directly from them).

7. This would be a Pan-Lexus Service plan (ie: valid at any Lexus Dealer in the UK).

Given that Labour Rates are what kill us when it comes to Servicing - I am going to buy this plan, if for nothing else then peace of mind against increased Servicing costs. In the time we will own this RX, the Labour Rates will only go up and so will the associated cost of service.

I save about £60 today, but over the course of the three (3) years, if Labour Rates continue to rise, might save closer to £100+ ...also, I have the freedom to taking our RX for Service at any Dealer (sometimes we can beb in London and drop the car in for Service there) and not worry about any costs.

Thought I'd share the above just FYI to anyone else who might be considering purchasing a similar plan.

Think about going Gold.

There will inevitably be other works needed during those services. Mine needed:

50,000 - new rear pads

60,000 - new front discs and a set of pads

70,000 - new rear discs and pads

Cost of 60k service was also quoted at a standard costs of £633 all inc

Gold membership saved me a lot of money (a three fugure sum on the 60k alone) as well as access to other discounts and some excellent info, jokes etc in the Gold Members forum.

I appreciate that mate, but I MK Lexus tell me they do not accept the LOC Gold Card and my next nearest would be Watford - I would not save anything much when fuel and travel are taken into account - and thats IF Lexus Watford accept the LOC Card.

I know I'm being selfish in myt outlook on the discount scheme - but brakes I can now change myself (just done the pads front and rear) and really can't see what else might need doing? Tyres I will get from Costco - if anything else 'breaks' then I will see if my Warranty will cover it.

Since I'm saving £80 of the cost of my three (3) full services and paying £600 - I think that equates to a 15% discount on the Service Cost.

Does anyone know if any Dealer local to Milton Keynes might take the LOC Card?

Just in case anyone is following this thread, - I bought my Lexus Pre-Paid Service plan today for £606. Will be interesting to workout how much I do save over the period of the plan :)

Lets see if I can awaken this thread ?

I have a '04 RX300 SEL ICE that I bought in January at about 59000k mls, knowing that it would need the main 60k svc soon. I have just rung Sidcup Lexus and have had the following quoted :

Main 60K svc cost - around £650

Int 70K svc cost - around £320-£350

Main 80k svc cost - around £425

So, I enquired about a svc plan and was quoted a price of :

60/70/80k svc plan - £1051.38

70/80/90k svc plan - £1051.38

Now, given that the 60/70/80k has two main svcs, I think that it is a very good deal, especially as he said that I could get free MOT's and 10% of parts for the whole period............and I could pay interest free over 20mths by instalments.

This equates to about a £500 saving......WOW !

That sounds like agreat deal to me. I was just after your thoughts and confirmation that is is such a great deal (being the eternal sceptic I am).

NB - My RX has had a full Lexus svc history ( but missed the 50k svc ) and am now at 61k mls.

Should I bite his hand off ?

All I would say is that you make sure you are buying a Lexus GB Service Plan (IE: one that allows you to take your car to ANY Lexus Dealership for service).

The real issue with the Service Plan is that you need to play around with the services to see which combinations work out best - certainly the prices you have listed are very attractive.

Just make sure you know what you are buying!

I was offered the service plan after my 50,000 mile service and decided to go for it. I have no plans to sell the car and would end up paying for the next 3 services anyway if I do keep it (+ it's transferable). Somehow it seems a lot easier to know that the next 3 services are taken care of even if I am paying up front in monthly instalments. I also liked the MOT's being part of the deal and the 10% off parts. I don't normally go for these kind of deals but decided to give this one a go.

Hope I don't run into problems and end up regretting it.

Alan.

Thanks for the replies guys. I am going to take this offer up. Sounds ok to me, especially at 0% APR!

I would appreciate any update on the service plan. Don't have a car yet, but when I do get one, I would like to consider the service plan instead of using a local garage (simply because of the hybrid element). I am thinking of getting RX400H over 5 years old. Thanks
