Dampers / Shocks

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

Im a bit baffled here. I've had eibach springs put on my is200 with my 19" alloys. The place i got the job done from said i wouldnt need to change the shocks but someone else told me i should.

Since having the car lowered by 15mm with the eibach's, my ride is definately more harsh! Im feeling every bump in the road and the steering does jerk while driving at higher speeds over bumps in the road. Is this a result of my standard shocks being worn out?

If i need to replace them, what ones do you recommend?

that sounds as if there bottoming out,are you sure it only lowered by 15mm most springs lower by 40mm and ive seen some that do it by 60mm.

you can easily find out by removing the spring and compressing the damper by hand if you can im pretty sure its fooked

As it is a sport it and already 15-25mm (?) lower than standard, it could be the further lowering has altered your cars

Geometry (probably camber) to the point of major issues appearing.

I would suggest a visit to "The Dr." Tony Bones @ Wheels-InMotion in Chesham. He knows more about IS200 Geometry

than anyone else in the country, plus he is not far from you.

There is an upcoming LOC Knowledge Day @ WIM Sunday 13th July 10am free for club members to attend.

(See this link for details)

There is a free raffle for Geometry Set-Up's on the day (value approx £100 each) so well worth attending.

Post your name on the thread if you are coming :D

you'll feel more of the road and bumps having 19"

Agree with aztec, you will be in for a much harsher ride full stop with 19's on. Look good though B)

To be honest, the 19s on there were perfectly fine with the standard springs on. The ride comfort was still there until i lowered the car.

Im running 225/45/19 on the front and 235/45/19 on the back.

Thought you had the 225/35/19's fitted matey but wasnt sure as you did mention them in another post? I bet the 45 profile is very close to your arches or have you had them rolled? When i fitted lowering springs on mine it seemed to bounce up and down the faster i got and the garage said it was the shocks being worn out? So thought sod it and fitted coilovers :)

apologies, 225/35 was what i meant to say.

i put 235s as the back tyres. The outer rim on the alloys dont stick out like they do with the 225 but it does rub now on the back tyres when i have passengers and going over bumps.

Might be worth asking Tony at WIM about his arch rolling matey when you go to see him as it might give you enough clearance for your rims and stop any rubbing :)
