Cam Belt And Service

Just been reading the thread on the 60K service, and my bottom expanded when i saw the price.

im on about 64k at the mo, i didnt have to do the 60k service so im happy, however, i will be doing a 70k one, how much do you think that would cost? And if i get my cam belt at same time how much then?

70k service is basically an oil + oil filter change and a general checkup. No idea how much this would cost at a Lexus dealer.

I was quoted £550 for a cambelt change by my local Lexus garage 2 years ago, in the end I bought genuine Lexus/Toyota parts and changed the belt, tensioner and idler myself. Might be an idea to buy genuine items from Lexus and get a good local garage to do the cambelt change- just pay the local garage labour, you supply the parts.

I was quoted by a good local garage (not Lexus) £135 for cambelt change, that was with them supplying the parts and all of them being official parts too. I have to get my 70K service done soon too, the car has only covered 59K but going by age it will need the 70k service. Price on that I think will be between £80 and £100 if I remember correctly, I need to check it out again.

In fact I just rang my garage and they will have a quote in 30mins.

Does that price of £135 include labour as well? If so, that's a cracking price! I paid about £120 for the genuine parts from Lexus.

Ok just got off the phone with my local garage who are Jap specialists. For my 70K service and the Cambelt including two tensioners the price came to £487. However the chap said that on all the is200's he has worked on, rarely do they need the tensioner and the idler changing so he sadi they check condition before replacing these and if the car doesn't need them then £110 can be knocked off of the price. So that gives us a cost of £377 for the Cambelt and the 70K service. not too bad what do you guys think?

I think that if you're changing the cam belt then you should change the idler and tensioner too. Do you really want to leave it another 60K before changing those ? If they start to wear then they could cause a lot of extra wear on your new cam belt.

and also if one of the idlers go or tensioners brake up then pop goes the timing belt regardless of how new it is!!!then the wallet will poss have to buy 24 valves a new timing belt and tensioner kit a gasket set and a lot of labour fitting it all!some people even change their water pump while its all stripped.

Yep just checked with the guys at DMC and they will also supply and fit the water pump (plus necessary extras) for £100. So i'm gonna go for it and have the pump, cambelt, tensioners/idler and 70K service done. All that will come to a grand total of £587 not too bad for the lot I'm thinking. I must say sorry to the original poster for kind of taking over this topic but I hope this has given you guys an idea of pricing too.

If in West London, a very short trip down the M3 will get you to Toyota GT who have been used many times

by LOC members, and in South East London Albin B Motors in Beckenham. Hope this helps :)

Just a little tip for everyone, lexus themselves DO NOT change the idler pully when doing a cam belt change. They ONLY change the belt and tensioner. I've been told this by lexus bolton and they said that its ok not to change the idler pully. If they've had any problems or comebacks due to this though I dont know but seems like they hadnt as if they had then I'm sure they woulda changed their practices.

Best to be on the safe side wozza than have ur cam belt go due to failure of the idler pully. I'll be getting all 3 bits changed when I do it. From what I know the idler pully is just a loose pulley that the cam belt goes over and doesnt have any other job apart from helping the cam belt along but if for instance the pulley were to be worn then this could easily cause belt wear and thats the last thing we want one our hands when we got a new belt.

I agree with Wozza regarding AB Motors in SE London - have used them myself for service, cambelt change & new front legs for my IS200 SE - very professional, no problems - will be back soon for my yearly service.

I have left a recommendation for them in the relevant area on this site.

The garage is called the Dorchester Motor Company and their number is 01305261111. I've had servicing done with them before and the use all official parts and do a fantastic job. I can't recommend them enough! : )

Just had my car back today after a new cambelt kit and water pump.

All ADL Blueprint parts which are supposed to be very good quality.

£302 all in inclusive of labour. It hurt but it was necessary. :)

Japarts are part of the JEM group, I will be using them for my 60k service and cam belt change later this year. They seem an OK outfit although I haven't used them myself.
