Fdm Group/ Fdm Academy...anyone Used Them?

Recommended Posts

As above...has anyone in the IT sector used the services of the FDM group? They're a massive company which train u up and then u gotta work for them for 2 years. I've passed the telephone interview and have been having lengthy conversations with them over the system and they now want to invite me for a proper interview but I dunno what to do. I cant decide on if I should go thru with it or not as the training in the networking pathway is in brighton but I dont really wanna relocate but then again the application support pathway is in manchester but then depending upon the client u could be working anywhere in the UK once u finished the training.

Any advice/ tips would be greatly appreciated.

Is this a similar company to those that advertise on TV saying you can earn 40/50/60k a year?

The ad normally has a binman/low paid worker earning a :tsktsk: wage, next second you see him in the classroom learning his "IT skill", then the ad ends with him driving off in his new company car to his dream IT job to earn said 40/50/60k a year :whistling:

A bit like them driving instructor course ad's.

If the FDM group is anything like I have described then please be aware- that's all I will say.

From what I know mate...I dont think so. I even thought that as well initially but they aint as even one of the teachers at my uni recommended them. Basically what they do is help graduates into work. They act like a middle man for all the big companies who need staff and basically they get all the students, analyse them, train them up, test em etc etc then u get contracted out to big companies but ur actually working for FDM kinda. I suppose its kinda an agency as well u could call it. Oh yeh, the training is free.

Are you in a position to work for them for two years? I'm assuming there must be a catch to make up for the "free" training. What salary are they offering while you do the two years?

Right, strike that off the list....after doing some research I've discovered that they're a bit dodgy. Although they train u up there's no "guaranteed" job after it all. People who've done the training have been in n out of jobs with them like crazy and also a lot of people have walked out when its come to signing the contract with them due to how tight the contract is.

look...

Hey guys.

FDM are an IT services provider and specialise in training IT graduates. I trained with them last year and I must say I owe them a lot. They train you for a period 12-16 weeks i think (it varies) and yes it's free and yes you do have to sign into a contract of two years. However you need to understand that its really tough to break into the IT industry as a graduate. I learnt bearly any tech skills whilst at Uni so wasn't employable to the big blue chip cos I wanted to work for.

FDM not only gave me this training in Java development but they also placed me with some amazing clients including some leading investment banks. You also get a good salary throughout this time and an amazing CV at the end so I'd say its definitely worth it. But if you can't commit to two years then yea I wouldn't really bother applying.

Hope this helps!
