Best Wheel Sizes For 1995 Ls400

Recommended Posts

I have changed to new clear indicators, LED sidelights, HiD high and low beam Headlights and the front looks like a new car.I am now trawlng the net to buy a set of wheels to bring the side view up to date, the trouble is i dont know the best size to get,i am looking at a set of....

2 X 235/40/18 for the front with 2 X 265/35/18 rear all Lexus fit

wheels

My problem is i dont want lots of space between the top of the tyre to the arches, or should i go for 19s with

2 X 235/35/19 front 2 X 265/30/19 rear

do i need to drop the car which i dont want to do?

any help would be fab.

assuming that the rolling radius remains the same, then you will have the same amount of gap between the top of the tyre and the wheel arch regardless. The thing is the sidewall of the tyre is shorter to make up the difference.

If you go for a taller tyre then your speedo, satnav, odometer, etc. will all be inaccurate and you will make the car slower to accelerate by effectively raising the overall gearing.

It will also raise the car off the ground more which could also worsen the handling and braking, albeit slightly.

I really like the look of the wheels you linked to there, a guy I knew had a set like that on an early LS400 and they looked really good. I think the car was lowered as well.

235/40/18 will be much to small.

245/45/18 is the best size to go for, i have 245/40/18 and they are a tiny bit small in my opinion.

it will aslo depend on the width of wheel, mine are on a 7.5" wheel any wider will lower the profile slightly as you'll be stretching the tyre.

there are plenty of websites that compare rolling radius and tyre/whell size opions.

Use this site to work out the wheel/tyre combo you need in order to keep same gearing http://www.carbibles.com/tyre_bible_pg2.html

I have noticed that my Lexus speedo reads 75 at a true 70 (standard wheels/tyres), so don't go too far down on rolling circumference with your choice, or this will get worse.

Ride will also deteriorate with low profile tyres, and some tramlining may occur.

Nice wheels though.

Thanks for the input guys. Seems to be a lot of work to find the right set of wheels for the LS400? Theres a fine line with these cars between cool and stupid looking.

Any more ideas would be welcome as im still doing my homework. Seems the Americans go all the way with their wheels.

make sure they will fit! dont go by the pcd, the LS is renown for having a very limited wheel choice, just because its 114.3 pcd and fits an IS200(for example) dont expect it to fit an LS

Looked at the wheel ant tyre bible and your right its going to be tuff to find a set with the same circumference i will need 235 35 20s then i only lose 4 mph in speedo error. This will be to hard on the ride and look to pimpy.

There must be some wheels that look good on the car as the stock ones let the car down, ive brought the front up to date with Hid lights, clear indicators and LED sidelight bulbs but the side looks dated.

Anyone got other wheels on thier cars ? if so any pics and details?

Thanks all

I couldn't agree more. I have the DHP wheels on mine whih do look better (to me) than the standard LS wheels. Been looking for ages for something else but nothing I've seen really takes my fancy.

A mate of mine owns a paintshop, and I have seen some of the wheels he has painted on the hot rods he does-centres and outer rims in different colours, so I may go down that route just to see how it can work (or ruin the cars looks!).

Hi. Fitting bigger wheels to a LS400 can be bit of a hassle. This is because the front caliper is so big/wide it pushes out the wheel. so your first task is to find a wheel that is "deep" enough to fit over the caliper.

failing that...

I had to fit a 15mm spacer to get my rims to fit, also we needed to fit extended wheel bolts to match the extra 15mm. So you'll need to keep this in mind.

Take a look at my car. It'll give you an idea of how yours might look with the same sizes. I don't think you really want to lower the profile more than 45 because you'd be dragging your butt, especially over speed bumps which the LS don't like anyhow. And I think going up to a 19" rim would maybe get the front tyre to go into the inner wing on full wheel lock.

My tyre size is 18X245X45 http://picasaweb.google.com/herenthere0/LexusLS400#

Hope this helps.
