Blocking Egr Valve

Recommended Posts

Hello.

I just brought the IS220d only 2 weeks ago. Found out about the turbo lag...oh well I was willing to live with that.

It's a 2008 with 129000 miles on the clock.

A few days ago I had some starting issues. But once started the car would be fine for the rest of the day. But now I have no power from the turbo. Literally the car is a wimp.  No balls whatsoever.  My biggest fear initially was that the turbo had packed in.  But on reading forums, there is a possibility that the EGR valve may have something to do with it. I'm wondering if the turbo should still be turning over slightly regardless. Or is this typical behaviour? And was the starting issues the warning signs and they are somehow linked?

If I cleaned, replaced or blanked and deleted the EGR,  would this be the solution to my no turbo problem?

Or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Any advice or info would be very welcome.

Thanks in advance

Stu

Welcome Stu.

Does the car come on boost eventually or is there no power at all?  Usually with blockages, the low end will have nothing but then it will take off after a certain point.

In the meantime, have you tried cleaning the EGR valve?  It is quite simple to do and would be a good place to start.

Finally, if you haven't already, it would probably be a good idea to get a OBD cable and TechStream from eBay to help diagnose any problems.  Some on the forum have suggested that this works well:
