Telescopic Steering Wheel - Disable?

Recommended Posts

Please could you let me know how to disable the automatic telescopic steering wheel?

I.e. To stop it from automatically raising when I turn the ignition off etc.

Thank you

Just a question, why?

The steering wheel is not in my way to get in or out so I dont need it to move each time I start/stop the engine.

The underlying reason is for fear of it breaking in the 'up' position! So whilst I dont need it I may as well stop it!

The manual says it can be done but says to see a Lexus dealer!

So I was wondering if someone on the forum may know?

Thanks

That's an odd reason, I don't recall coming across a telescopic steering wheel problem before. Will you disable other features in case they brake?

I would suggest calling Lexus, they would offer free advice.

I suppose it's a fair question, if you have no need for it there's no need for the extra load on the motors. Plus it saves a few seconds waiting for it to return everytime you start the car :)

Thanks TigerFish.

Your '96 GS300 Sport looks stunning by the way. I love the blue.

I think the blue one is the '99 GS300 :winky:

A little unfair, bulbs and batteries are pretty cheap to replace :P

I don't see what the big deal is, if you don't need the column to move, the OP doesn't have to have it go up and down however many times a day you use the car!

I find the whole column move irritating once the novelty wore off, so I know where the OP is coming from. But back to the OP's question about a dealer setting or a DIY one, I'm not aware of a DIY setting change procedure other than disconnecting the ecu that controls it. So off to the dealer I suspect, and the lottery of how much they will try to charge to change it.

The guy asked if anyone could help with advice on disabling a feature which he doesn't want operational. It would appear that Lexus have helped with this matter. Surely if he doesn't need certain features and wants to disable them members don't really need to "take the ****".
