Ucf20 Upper Arms /rear Wishbones

Hi

got my ls400 monday, but few running noises now apparent.

There is a fair bit of play in the wishbone bushes, say 1/16" movement, feels a little like the wheel bearing is out of adjust, but visible movement at the bush. has anyone got a decent set on their bedside table? its a 95 ucf20

There are a few reciprocating noises at about 35/40 mph, they sound hub brg ish and I hope are being transmitted to the car via the previous bush wear?

2 tin heat shields ( one around the ns back box) are rattly, there is a broken bit in the osf plastic w/arch liner and no cover on the underside engine bay, so all in all a little road noise.

Any advise about quietness most welcome please!

finally, there are a few very slight signs of paint deterioration arond the osr arch and c post quarter/ panel, I note rubber drain outlets in the sub sill space below, does the inner arch drain thru here? again this is really slight but I'm keen to prevent any rot/nibbble at the outset

Any advice most welcome, car is up in the air next week for a better check............so may be more

All this may sound bad, its not, overall the condition is very very good, 122k, all the stamps, needs catching up with now.

I like it a lot..................ooo forgot to mention, scrape on the nsf+nsr plastic skirts, they are silver......if anyone has some snuggled up with those rear wishbomes?

ps May need front upper arms too

Wonderful car( had a gs300 some time back..was good too)hope to (near) mint it

thank you

Jim

Hi

Jim

If you check through the various forums on the LS400 ,Mechanical, general discussions, workshop tips, most of the questions you pose will be answered. There as been a recent discussion on rear end bushings under that very subject , your questions are answered there. With regards to spare body parts eBay is a good source and there are two or three excellent sites that regularly put spares up for buy it now.

I have found over the years I have owned a LS400 that using second hand consumables like bushing related wearing parts is a false economy and rarely as a satisfactory outcome.

Best of luck with your LS and enjoy.

Hi

Thanks for that, drove up to bromsgrove last night in the ls, really rather pleasant and relaxing, running noise/ reciprocating noise much less noticable at constant, higher speed.

I heartily agree ref bushes, but the original part is £340+ vat per pair, unless anyone can recommend excellent oem/pattern suppliers?

Will post findings from the ramps of sunny Aston next week!

ALSO...........is it possible just to turn a set of bronze bushes and fit them, anyone done this? or made a bushing with phos/bronze and a poly/nylon centre?
