Projector Headlights In Is200 (Bi-Xenon)

Started with modified anti glare bulbs because of the genius at Koito(Lexus/Toyota headlight manufacturer) who placed them at a strange angle.img1051bu.jpg

The out put was good but not great wee dark and bright spots:( so i did some research….

and discovered TRS the guys here are absolutely fantastic world class customer services! honestly you will want to do business with them just because of how great they are ask for discount and they give it! I wanted lights like this

total came to £150 with shipping. would have been more but Matt is generous I got a few other things threw in;)

Be careful and slow when doing so. I was like a kid at christmas and this happened!

The little bulb shield then has to be gently removed.

very simple to do just get something to bend the clips at the back out straight. the top one is easier so do it first then push it through the hole and…

bend the whole shield down to loosen the bottom clip now straighten it from the back and out pops the the shield.

Now remove the bulb holder and lock ring from the new projector. The bulb holder is removed by undoing the three small screws. place the larger silicone rubber onto the back of the projector where you just removed the lock ring from.


next feed the threaded part of the projector through the hole where your bulb come through into the projector. and put on the lock ring Tighten with needle nose pliers. not too tight as rotational alignment will need to be done. replace bulb holder.
***remember the red and black wires should be at the bottom***

now the wires are for the solenoid which activates the high beam feed these through the hole where the bulb shield was.

next up was fitting the ccfl to the shroud its pretty self explanatory i didn't take pictures two dots of silicon and clip the three parts together. the ccfl goes on the white plastic part then that translucent bit clips to the chrome bit and the white ring with glued ccfl screws them all together.

the shroud is then pushed unto the projector i glued mine just in case it came off or loose on these Norn Iron roads.
ccfl wire were put through the top bulb shield hole.

this is the graphite shroud comes free with the projectors. a ccfl can also be fitted in this.

this is a bmw M3 shroud (very popular and looks well but i would suggest painting your reflector dark to prevent light escaping and ruining the look;)

I put on some Bi-Xenon monograms not to everyones taste i know! i removed the "Bi" thought it was too much.

now reheat and place lens back on. wiring is just the same as HIDs! except for the angel eyes(ccfl) to activate the high beam i used the supplied connectors and scotch locks to link them to normal high beams so that i have 4 high beams.

need a better camera they really don't do justice especially for the night time shots!

with out alignment and later discovered the left headlight was not seated correctly so had a bowing beam and no blue. thats now fixed blue line at top is not visible in photoimg1093ps.jpg

one issue is sealing the back of the projector i bought some headlight covers from another car and glued them(silicone) to the original ones then cut a hole and used the H1 bulb seal(the small rubber ring fitted to the wires of after market hid bulbs) this picture was temporary using the smaller silicone ring that comes with the projector to seal.img1073n.jpg

The Bi Xenon highs are great but don't seem to have much distance! so i used the halogen highs as well the yellow is light penetrates rain much better then white light hence y fog light are supposed to be yellow! next step is saving again to get these Good Ballasts because mine are ******* and are destroying my bulbs they take 30+ seconds to warm up and the power surge on start up is killing the battery:( anyone wan a buy me new ballasts!? lol msn-wink.gif

Wana know more just ask. sorry for the very ******* grammar and poor write up i rushed it, have class in the morningwacko.gif

i will put up photos of the wiring if needed. note no extra wiring is need if you don't need Angel eyes or the bi Xenon function.

Also guys you must remember that as these fit into the oem bulb slot they are fully adjustable with the headlight adjusters;) however when installed make sure and check rotational alignment if the projector is not fully tightened this can easily be done with a pair of pliers and twisting the bulb holder while using the output to line them up horizontal.

Whats a dig bowl? aww u need Xenon;) but looks good light output much better? is your cut off good? i want something easy and reversible too much of a wimp! but well done.

Those projectors are the s*x!

I have projectors too, with dig bowl shrouds. they are from 3000GT, not bixenon and not even xenon, but kit works good in them :) installing them requires reflector cutting....

That is a fantastic job mate, really impressed!

Would love to have some of those but that is way too involved a job for me! How hard was it to rotate the fitting as you did originally to make the anti-glare bulbs straight? I need to do this with mine but haven't got round to it yet :whistling:

I'm with you Parthiban. I've wanted projectors for how many years now I can't even remember!! But it isn't literally a plug and play job is it. Too involved for me too, and only the US seem to have companies who specialise in retrofits.

I call it plug and play because no damage or permanent modifying needs to be done! the worst bit is heating the light to remove the front lens pop in the projector reseal headlight bobs ur uncle mine was made more difficult with the use of angel eyes(ccfl) and the double high beams if ur happy with just normal high been then its a crazy simple job

this wee bit needs cut out to let the metal pin guide fit when the lock ring is flipped.

remove the three screws and flip over the lock ring it will only screw on one way so don't worry about alignment. flipping it allows it to hold the bulb in the correct position. however the tabs on the bulb need to be cut and filed so it can be rotated into the correct position.

i was goin to sell my modified bulbs but nobody want second hand bulbs! as I'm sure u know they turned out to be an awful waste of £50

There must have been a decent improvement once you made the anti-glare bulbs straight? Obviously not as good as projectors, but must be better than running standard HID bulbs in a halogen housing?

Well it is better for other road users but restricts your light on the road. But the reflector gives patchy output. But i was surprised by the cut off! It was good. Have you ever looked closely at the difference in reflectors bowl shape on an is300 and Xenon equipped is200?

I thought this a more difficult install than projectors due to the risk of damage to the bulb you have to be gutsy to take a blade and file to a delicate expensive bulb! ( in saying that I can realise the fear of putting headlights in the oven ;))

If I had the funds I would be more than happy to start such a business it is unlikely that I will find a job soon with today's job market. I would be willing to do a set for some1.

I have opened and resealed my headlights twice now and unfortunately the sealing edges have seen better days as a result of repeated heating and cooling of the plastic.

I may send the job your way once I have all the bits ;-)

So if I got the single Xenon projector unit I wouldn't have to worry about these wires anyway and could seal the unit properly? How did you do the wiring for the CCFL's? Im guessing they went to the side light loom? If so where did the wires go?

And would you be interested in selling your anti-glare bulbs? What colour rating are they? And how long did you run them for?

There is no single Xenon projector that is as easy to fit! The bi Xenon part causes no hassle in sealing the light unit the projector itself had small gaps around the base of the bulb where the three screws hold the bulb holder on.3wee dots of silicon can cure this. For the ccfl I filed a little around the sidelight holder and past the wires out there. Then used scotch locks to connect the ccfl converter to the sidelight loom. It would be a better idea to bring the ccfl wires out with the bulb wires as I nipped on if the wires a little when putting sidelight holder in.

How much would you want for them? Forgetting your projectors, are the anti-glare bulbs WITH your modifications an improvement on an ordinary HID kit? You mentioned a loss of light?

Well normal HIDs in reflector housing appear better because they scatter the light everywhere, blinding other road users. So realistically they are worse because you are not getting that light output up into the air. The anti-glare portion blocks light hitting the bottom of the reflector. It is the bottom that reflects the light up into drivers eyes. the happens in all reflectors its just not as blinding with halogens because they are so dull. if you ever see cars with reflector based HID systems you will see the bottom of the reflector does not emit light. Cars i noticed this on (nissan quashqi, some volvos and of course the is300)

Is300 reflector is shaped different to correct beam pattern for HID bulbs.

I worry about selling without guarantee :( I would like to get the majority of what i paid for them back!? they were £58 from hids4u can't remember postage. so about £35-£40? I could put them on eBay if you wanted. They were working when i took them out but would have to test them for maybe and hour before accepting a sale.
