Squeaky Brakes On My Ls400

Recommended Posts

 well i aint no expert, so these are just wild guesses!

- pads gone? (light should come on soon then?)

- one of the calipers not working properly (is it pulling to one direction whilst braking?

- pads have worn unevenly?

i'm sure one the real experts will be here shortly! :D

I had new pads and disks replaced a couple pf months ago. After 2K, the sqeaking has come back. Have also heard other 400s do the same aswell. Anyone else with a circa 93/94 with the same problem?

Not an expert either but have you tried taking out the shims (very thin peices of metal  between the pads and the pistons)and greasing them with copper grease i had this problem years ago on a car and it cured it.

2 of the 4 LS400s I have owned have had no front anti-squeal shims fitted. They have 4 pieces to each caliper, 2 black 2 silver, if you take them out without studying them it is not clear how they go back. Hence the 'brake part fitters' of this world just throw them out. Without them the pads usually clatter but can squeal. Its always worth checking these if you have a front end rattle that goes when you apply the brakes.
