Hi All

I have had a bit of a longstanding problem with the parking sensors on my 1995 GS430, from pretty well the moment I bought it from a main dealership in the South East of England. The system keeps giving me false alerts, especially from the rear sensor. It tends to happen more often if the car has been standing for a while, but not always. I will often have the "bump imminent" red bar showing at the rear bumper in the display panel, and the beeper sounding continuously, but there is nothing within 100 metres of the back of the car.

The car has been back to the main dealer at least half a dozen times. They say that it's hard to track down as the fault is intermittent. Some sensors have been replaced, but all to no avail.

I am left wondering if this is not a processor fault somewhere. Intermittent faults in computer kit often stems from a PCB fault, like a dry-soldered contact.

Has anyone else had this problem, please and, if so, how was it cured?

Many thanks,

Mike

Sorry, I should have added that I have read the archived posts on the forum and have tried all the remedies so far that don't involve replacing the sensors. I have washed and dried the sensors and surrounding areas until they gleam, blown compressed air at them, and played a hair-dryer over the area to try to remove any condensation. It's the intermittent nature of the problem that is so infuriating.

Regards

Mike

I assume 1995 is a typo. Did the car not come as a Lexus Used Approved car? It would be totally unnacceptable to me for a dealer not to be able to rectify a fault that presented shortly after purchase. It should be covered by warranty and as such I would certainly not be trying to rectify it myself and possibly invalidating any warranty claim.

Hi Dave

Yes, sorry, I meant 2005. It's dome only 0k in those 7 years. I bought it 30 months ago and yes, again, it originally came with a full Lexus Used Approved Car warranty, followed by a 2 year local warranty from the main dealer. The car is still under the second warranty, but the problem first started about 8 months into original Lexus warranty. I am afraid that I agree that it’s unacceptable for the fault to recur after so many attempts to put it right. I have not mentioned the name of the dealership but they are one of the larger concerns in the south east and have a high reputation on the Forum. I am surprised that they keep falling down on this.

Do you or any other list members have experience of what it takes to correct the fault?

Regards

Mike

22 months with the fault and still not fixed! Have you discussed the matter with the Dealer Principle or Lexus GB? I would not have been as patient as you. I think you need to put something in writing to them outlining your dissatisfaction and demanding that they correct the fault. Maybe involve trading standards and any trade federations that the dealer belongs to. You need it sorted before warranty expires as apart from the inconvenience it will affect the resale value of the car.
