How To: Change Climate Control Backlight Bulb

Recommended Posts

I've seen the question a number of times, so thought I'd do a quick write up being as I had to have a look at mine today.

Remove top vent tray. Takes a good pull...

Remove lower switch panel and unplug switches noting plug location. Again just pulls forwards with a good tug...

Remove bolts holding stereo and climate control frame in place using a 10mm socket. Two at bottom and two at top.

The whole unit will then pull forwards. Then undo fixing screws holding climate control unit into stereo cage. The stereo cage will need to be loosened off too so the unit can be pulled out. An 8mm socket is useful for this. Or one side of the frame can be completely removed to make it easier.

Unplug unit...

With unit on work bench or similar, undo the screws at the back. Two each end.

Then undo the pull tabs around the edge of the unit to enable splitting the unit...

You will then see this. The bulb holders are spread out over the circuit board. There are three for main backlighting coloured grey in this picture. The smaller black ones together at the bottom of the picture about centre of the circuit board are for the clock backlighting.

Replace bulbs!

Hope that helps!

Bugger just noticed I've done a typo on the title. Why can't we edit the title? Any mods wish to put me right?

Not got that far as yet, wanted to get one out to order one. However night shifts have stopped play. The orange is just a little rubber jonny that goes over the bulb itself, so can be transfered to the replacement bulb. Have tried halfrauds and local spares place and both had nothing like. Perhaps it will be a trip to Lexus.

Ok thanks. Found them and I will get a couple.

I have another fault which I would appreciate some help please. My radio's lights are not coming on when I turn the cars headlights on. There was an aftermarket cheap system on when I got it which I replaced with the original. The car is a 2003 model and the stereo has an amp. Could anybody help me to get the lights working again?

Many thanks

No mate, there's only the bulbs you can see in my pictures. Are you sure they're working when actually in there? Some of mine didn't work properly just simply because the contacts needed cleaning up.

On my picture there's three brown coloured bulb caps. They are the backlighting for the dials etc. You only need one to not work and you'll loose almost an entire dial. The two little black ones are the clock/ temperature back light. The final two on the outer edges are the seatbelt warning lamp and hazard switch.

Ok mate thanks. Do you have any ideas about the radio lights' fault? I checked all fuses and they are all OK. It is probably a wiring fault but I don't know where to start!

Thanks very much

Where are you located? Perhaps update your profile, you may get someone offer to assist.
