Hi all,

I join this forum in desperate search of information...

My beloved IS 200 worked like a charm for over ten year, and suddenly failed while idling in the traffic jam.

The engine vibrates as if it were unbalanced. The check engine light is on.

I've plugged an OBD2 reader and all I can get is a P031C code.

I've searched the net and found nothing helpful. Nothing either in the IS200 Diagnostics manual from Lexus.

Does anyone have a clue?

Sounds like your gonna have to bite the bullet and get a diagnostic from a main dealer. At least they can diagnose the problem accurately.

You don't then have to get the work done at the dealer but at least you'll know exactly what's wrong.

the only fault relating to p031c i can find is injector fault, but doesnt say which one.Sorry.

where did you see that definition, would be handy to see it?

I can only find P013C defined as "ISO/SAE Reserved", which doesn't mean anything.

If you reset the codes, does the same code re-appear, or any other codes?

found it again here, also listed as p0304, cylinder 4 ignition, cant find the site which said injector again.

http://www.msvmaster...es.html?start=1

Hmm, that's interesting.

"P0304 out of order 4 cylinder ignition (as an option-P031C)"

Must admit, I don't get why it would report that code rather than P0304 instead. Or why nowhere else mentions the connection between the two codes (asuming it is true of course)

I would check all connection to coil packs and check spark plugs, maybe swap them around and see if the code stops or moves.

To keep you posted:

I've removed the air intake assy and unplugged the injectors one by ones: unplugging injector on cylinder 4 did nothing.

So I swapped coil packs on cylinders 3 & 4 and the problem moved from cylinder 4 to cylinder 3.

It looks like a dead coil pack. I'll oder one.
