Latest Technology From China!

I have worked in electronics for many years and can actually remember when brands such as Bush, Alba and Goodmans were well made in the UK and of a reasonable quality.

Fast forward a few years and the names are now applied to any old tat produced in China.

So here we have it, a nice Bush DAB Clook Radio, not only is this stuff cheap and nasty they cannot even spell the name!

Nothing really to do with China, it is made to a price and following a design. Being made in China has the potential to be better made than anything in this country, we just don't have the tooling or infrastructure these days to compete.

What is says to me is that Bush have no quality assurance and are happy for any piece of junk to have their name on it.

It's all 'Badge Engineering" today, the well known and respected brand names of the past are used to convince buyers the stuff is the same build and quality as it was 30 years ago when the applances were made in the UK.

Hitachi and Toshiba are just 2 examples where the badge impresses and the guts inside are cheap and nasty.

unfortunately it is because they are unable to compete with the cheap products and so end up becoming a 'me too' rather than differentiating. Not enough people are willing to pay a premium and settle for good enough. One of the reasons why Pioneer had to pull out of the consumer television business, and why Sony's TV business has run at a loss for over 8 years in a row.

even mentioning Toshiba and Hitachi in the context as Bush, Alba and Goodmans is a very sad situation. The same a grouping Lexus with Lada.

I must point out however that I'm talking about the consumer electronics space as both Toshiba and Hitachi still make quality products in the other sectors they operate in.
