Still wondering if my car is sport or not i looked at the code on engine and it says its A02B witch to my understanding is there is a lsd in the car and only lsds came in sport models would i b right? Also i dont have tinted windows, chrome pedels, sills nor is there 2 tone steering wheel. I didnt check my diff but if there is a code saying M98, M85 it is an lsd if its M96 its an open diff can i tell by this i have also left a message with Lexus but havent got a reply yet either?

V5 wont lie. if the chassis number on the V5 matches the chassis number on your car and it says IS200 sport on V5, then its a sport model if the V5 does not say IS200 Sport then its not a sport model. only thing a sport model has over the other IS200 models is LSD and lower suspension setup which could translate to it being more lively in and out of corners but not a lot in it as already confirmed, power is the same for all models.

Absolutely right.

And out of curiosity, what does your V5 say, John?

I can't remember if it was on here or on the Facebook group but somebody had an IS200 with none of the sport extras but it had an LSD same as yours. We found out it was an Irish IS200 and was called an IS200 chenelle. On the UK V5 it just said Lexus IS200.

says IS300 ... and as its TTE option has the full body kit , 18" Aero's. LSD, two tone steering wheel, tinted rear windows, lip spoiler, sport pedals and Sport suspension same car as Chris

That's right. So it's not a Sport then - because it doesn't say Sport on the V5. Just as you said here;

if the V5 does not say Sport then its not a sport model.

:innocent:

on paper no it doesn't say Sport but Technically it is a sport model. Chris's TTE IS200 says Sport on his V5 mine doesn't but we both share all parts and spec besides gearbox and engine of course.

No no Chris; there's no debate. He's clearly said that unless it says "Sport" on the V5, it's not a "Sport" model. So because his V5 doesn't say "Sport", then he doesn't have a "Sport" car. It's simple, and he said it himself.

I do find it ironic though that he insists on contradicting himself. I mean, he said, in his own words, that his car isn't a Sport, yet then goes on to tell us WHY his car is a Sport (even though it isn't). His reasoning? The only difference is the engine and gearbox. So, two differences between your car and his, in his eyes, makes his a Sport (even though it isn't). Funny, cos earlier he said there's only two differences between the IS200 Sport and a non Sport IS200 (the suspension and LSD). So if only two differences make an IS300 (non Sport) a Sport (it's not), then surely only two differences make a non-Sport IS200, a Sport? Yes?

No...

Sorry OP - if your V5 doesn't say Sport, it's not a Sport. Just like John's IS300 isn't a Sport - no matter how much he wishes it was.

As chris said no Is300 sport debate here.. Read my lips again matt.. 'on paper no its not but technically yes it is' what gives it away as a sport? Lowered sport suspension, tinted rear windows, two tone steering, LSD, lip spoiler and sport peddles. Jump off a roof if you cant accept it matt

Hahaha. Still not a sport tho! :D

Does the insurance policy price quote make any different between Sport and non-Sport model.

Think mine was about £20 more (for the year) but I put that down to the valuation of the car (which was a bit higher than the SE I'd previously had a quote for)

When I was getting quotes for my Lexus I was looking to get a sport but that added ~£200 to the quotes xD.. Although I am only 22 and most insurers don't like insuring young people on anything with a "T", "Sport" or "Turbo" in the name xD

Otherwise I would have gone with a Sport for the LSD and lower suspension (Although will most likely be adding these on anyway)

I believe the IS200 "Sport" is an insurance group higher than the "SE" and "S" trims.

The "Sport" is in group 13 whereas the "S" and "SE" are in group 12. No idea why though, as they all perform the same on paper.

Actually, the "S" is probably the quickest of the lot because it is the lightest :hehe:

The insurance groupings aren't just related to performance though. They are also tied into thefts, and write offs. So if the IS200 Sport has been written off more times than an SE, or stolen more often, it will be a higher insurance group. An Escort Cosworth is still insurance group 20, yet a Focus RS (mk2) is group 19 - even though the Focus RS is more powerful, bigger engine, faster top end, and costs more than an Escort Cosworth.

Does it actually say the word SPORT on logbook or just S? The S doesn't denote sport just a basic model.

No my Logbook just says IS200 but iv looked online at some of them car checkers in Ireland as car is in Ireland and they all state that it is a sport i then got the old English registration number and checked it, that also says its a sport and there is the A02B code on the plate in the engine bay meaning there is a LSD in the car also and sports only came with LSD then i checked the code on the sticker on the diff to see what M code thingy it was and it says M59 is that an LSD or what does that mean??

its hard to tell these days, there are plenty of sport replicas about.

sport only comes in manual with lsd along with rear medium tinted windows and sport logo on the rear quarters. 15mm lowered as standard like the is300, which also has all the sport refinements such as lsd and much much more.

the diff you got on there is a lsd. the best real original way to know is check the V5 logbook! should say lexus is200 sport.
