Welcome to the club AJ. at 97k it's only just run in LOL.

As long as you service it regularly and keep an eye on cambelt changes you will get years of driving pleasure.

Enjoy your new car.

as confirmed 97K on these Yoda engines is just breaking in period.. bought mine at 105k and currently 125K and still drives smooth, no squeaks and rattles inside the car, and MOT tester still couldn't believe how quiet the Lexus idles in fact he confirmed he thought my engine had cut off when he had it on the ramp lowered the ramp and noticed it was silently ticking over at 750rpm. one can easily loose their license as engine is so smooth 70mph feels like 40mph so check your speed gauge often as you can go over easily without noticing.. Enjoy

Can't help you on that one I'm afraid! But welcome anyway, I've just joined too. Everyone on here seems really nice and you will be surprised how quickly you get replys to your questions. What were you doing posting at 4am this morning, couldn't sleep? One thing I can tell about the alarms on IS 200/300 assuming they are the same. Is if you leave a phone/ iPad in the car and it's on your driveway in reach of your house wifi it will set the alarm off if you get any emails etc. It took me about five times in the middle of the night to work out what it was. The neighbours loved it!

The standard alarm on the IS only goes off if you break a window/open a door when set. Doesn't have a tilt sensor as standard.

Not too sure about a shock sensor though as mine used to go off if you even tried door handles.

Welcome AJ

Not really sure on setting up the alarm as myself only knew by setting off the alarm is when the door open or movement in the front passenger (sensor on the center map light) :eerrrmm: i might be wrong..

always tell myself not to compare these gadget to current as it's a 10years model... use rain-x solution product or good old fashion Glass Cleaner Rubber Wiper at £1land would do a pretty nice job :P (rear window screen)

give it a good service and maintain it well, everything will be spot on

don't be shy to ask any question or browse around

welcome :zee:

Welcome AJUK77 and chrisyg.

These cars are great. Just check that the cambelt has been done. Initially, Lexus said every 100,000 miles, but they revised that to 60,000.

I bought mine with 122,000 miles on the clock and I found out it had never had a cambelt change! I booked it in straight away and was lucky. 140,000 on the clock now and still driving like a new car (some squeaks going on, but ill sort that out soon)

Welcome to the site.

Not sure on the second thing behind the dashboard, could be aircon needs refilling? I am possibly wrong.

The engine turning over. I sometimes get this, though it's probably me. Sometimes when I turn the key, I think the engine has caught (it sounds and feels like the engine has caught) and I let go to realise that it hasn't and it dies, I do it again and it's fine. I use Forte Advanced Formula Gas Treatment to clean the engine and other parts twice yearly (£10 a bottle) and this seems to keep everything clean and working as it should. I use Asda fuel too, that shouldn't be the problem, or at least, not the main problem. I do notice a slight increase in MPG and general performance when using Esso, but not enough to justify the increase in cost.

There may be other issues that other members have noticed and will be able to point you in the right direction. Hope this helps, if not. . . . Well. . . . umm. . nice cars, aren't they?

      Hellow everyone,
I am new to this forum so may be i posted this on a wrong category but i need help. I have lexus is200 and i am experiencing problems with the engine. For information i live in Tanznia where emmission is not an issue at all. They dont check cars for emission in our country.
This is how it started. The car was just fine in the beginning, imported from Uk. One day i went to do a general service, and when we open the top cover we found oil turned into muddy stuff, the mechani cleaned and it surprisingly he used water to wash away the stuff! i had to ask him why he did that because i believe the internals should not be washed by water, i have seen mechanics sing kerosene or diesel to clean the internals. But he said it was ok! the car drived normally no issues at all. I bought an aftermarket muffler, and install it, now we removed the first cat from front and left the rear one because i didnt want it to give out loud noises. after few drives problems started, having a constant CEL even after servicing the car. I started experiencing misfire, we check on which cyclinder and we found out 2 of the coils were not working properly, so we changed them. after a few drives then it started again, i changed the rest. but that didnt fix anything. I noticed the misfire occurs when i am idling or when i turn on the AC. Could this be caused by not removing the rear cat which results in gases not going all out but returning back to engine?

The second issue is like this. I know 1gfe is not a perfomance car ( i love speeding and to feel the power). Most of the time i drive fast when i go to work. Putting the engine to test. and it was just fine until yesterday. One of my friends owns Avensis (i think the one with 140 something HP) and wanted to race. I decided to give it a go to see how its compared to avensis ( i tried with mark x knowing i will loose but just wanted to see how i can keep up with it). The avensis seemed to match but cant not pass me, finally i passed avensis and left it behind quite a distance, but it took time like a minute or so. We did it twice, the second time i let him stay infront of me and sill managed to pass him. but when i come to stop, i started hearing a very serious loud knocking sound from the engine, i stopped to check it, and it was really scary, i could still drive it but the sound gets noisier, so i parked it and check under the hood trying to trace the sound, i could tell it was a piston, and sounds dry, as if its not lybricated at all. Also i noticed a little bit of smoke (not much that if you close the hood you wont see it nor smell) coming out around the coils, but i am not sure if it was from the coil or from a small tube which was connected with airbox from engine top cover. Can you guys help me why there is such sound, my mechanic tells me it could be the engine was out of oil, how is it possible while its not even a week i replaced the oil and oil filter? ( i didnt check the oil level after this because i was late at work so i left it there). Any ideas? You think the engine is done? (it has 170,000+ miles on it).

Now what i am considering after the dissapointment of a six cylinder 1gfe struggling agains a 4 cylinder avensis is to do an engine swap. Can you guys recommend to me which engine should i go for? (the labour costs here are not expensive at all considering what i have seen in forums what people pay for a swap) I am looking for a decent reasonable power a lexus should have. I want an engine that will not mess up other functions of the car, like heated seats and other electronic stuffs.
But before recommending the engine, also enlighten me on my first 2 issues.

      Thank you very much guys

      Hello,
I just joined the forum as I'm going to view a IS200 tomorrow which hopefully I'll be bringing back home. Fingers Crossed!
The seats in the car are cloth a with a weird pattern and I'm breaking/scraping a mr2 soon, so I wondered could I swap them out for the bucket seats from a MK3 MR2?
Would I need to swap the rails over from the original seats?
I know the Mr2 seats don't change height which might be an issue but I normally have my seat low anyway
      Any advice welcome, Thanks!

      Hi All
Just got an IS200 Sport Y reg 2000 model and impressed with how well this 13 year old car holds up at 101,000 miles.
The drive is quite a revelation ... comfortable ride, solid car, excellent build quality, smooth acceleration, an almost silent engine, great cornering and handling, plus superb equipment spec. A significant improvement over the Saabs we've been driving for the last 13 years. Still getting used to 6 gears and an easy clutch.
      Cheers
      Jo & Pete

Need some help desperatly with my master key for my 2003 Lexus Is200.
I turned the key while it was in the ignition and the plastic casing snapped! heard this is a common problem though. The actual blade is fine and so is the remote but its just the casing that has fallen to bits.
So my question is, can I just buy the plastic case off ebay and fit the blade and the transmitter ? or is it a bit more complicated than that?
Any thoughts from people who have had the same/similar problem would be much appreciated.
      Many Thanks
