Hello All,

Just a question to see if any others have had a similar issue:

IS250 is 2007 with 67K miles and I noticed that there was a rumbling noise coming from the belt area at the front of the car.

Lexus technician confirmed that it's the water pump bearing failing causing a very slight leak and is a common failure for these cars.

Thanks

Thanks Exdee for the feedback.

I was wondering if others had the issue too but it seems to be a "known" problem for that age/mileage I think.

The bearing has to work under a lot of tension from the belt system at the front there I guess.

Cheers.

Spooky. Mine was replaced at 68K miles too.

The garage said it's a common problem. I'm now expecting my current one to go at 136K miles in about two years time. :(

Just dug up the invoice;

The pump was £120 + VAT

Labour was 130 + VAT

I think the dealer wanted 600+ for it, if I recall correctly. The water pump is positioned awkwardly hence more time required to do the job.

Wow

I wonder if they changed the design to overcome the flaw.

Only time will tell I guess. I intend to keep mine for a long time, will find out eventually.

I had water pumped replaced in my is250 back in October at £450... Car at 70k

To buy the pump + coolant is only £190 but then u would need to find someone to fit it... I didn't bother arguing with lexus as the car was in for service + mot...

My old 2006 yaris went through 2 water pumps over 5 years (100k miles).. Once under want warranty and other time out of my pocket..

So yes it's a common Toyota related parts issue.

Some feedback on this now I have had the work done this morning @ Lexus Reading.

They fitted me in with a few days notice, fitted a new water pump, topped up my oil and valeted the IS250 for £250 inc VAT.

Outstanding.

Does anyone know where I can buy the parts from as I have a ex Lexus Woodford specialist who will carry out the work for £100.

I know it's needs pink coolant....is this dealer only

Any recommendations please as I am very low on coolant

Thanks Exdee. Will call around dealers tomorrow as not much available online or eBay Lexus Store.

My coolant is on the bottom line so should be okay for a while until I get the parts.

Thanks Newbie.

Just had a look and there is exactly the same stuff in ECP super long life pink coolant which I can get my hands on by the weekend. Both are ethanol/glycol based so I am hoping Toyota and EPC will be the same.

Here's the link: http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/p/car-accessories/winter-essentials/antifreeze-coolant/red-anti-freeze/?523770482&0&cc5_866

Thanks for that.....now I need a water pump!!!

Toyota require a unique coolant formulation. Most "generic" coolants in the UK are designed to match a formulation used by GM, and this formulation is pretty similar to formulas used by German and French manufacturers.

Japanese manufacturers use a completely different formula; the only way to get this Japanese formula is to buy the genuine article.

Whether this makes any real difference is anyone's guess. The main reason for the unique Toyota formulation is because their engineers were worried that the European formulation could corrode water pump seals. That said, the main reason for damaged water pump seals is usually crud in the cooling system scratching the seals or getting stuck in them. The European formulations have the advantage that they are better metal corrosion protectors, they are also a ton cheaper.

They're both correct.

The first is for an IS220D, the second for an IS250.

They have completely different engines, hence completely different water pumps!

Thanks John,

I shall be ordering the second one from US as much cheaper including tax and postage. UK is £150 - US is £87.00

For what it is worth, in December 2013 Lexus Reading supplied a water pump for £120, fitted it for £99 and sorted the coolant after so that was around £250 with the VAT on an IS250.

I thought it was fair and I needed it done quickly at the time and certainly wasn't in a position to find my own and fit it.

Thanks

Thanks mraines,

Reading is far from me but for good service and price I don't mind traveling. Did you have to wait around for long, I mean is it a few hours work or all day.

Lexus Reading have increased their price £295, but he said he will talk to his manager and see if they can do anything.

Will call him tomorrow as I have told them it was done for £250 last year inc VAT
