Bob Crow on radio 2, having a debate about the strike which included some MP. Defending the reason for retaining ticket collectors instead of machines, Mr Crow said "we get a lot of tourists who do not speak English as good as our people". Priceless.

I have always been a union member and have been on strike with both the miners and the fire service, it was disappointing to see someone in Mr Crow's lofty and very well paid position, (ignoring his confusion between adverbs and adjectives) apparently unable to put forward an intelligent case or to respond to the MP when challenged on various issues. In one example, he could even not respond when asked why ticket collectors are stuck behind perspex screens and not face to face with people. I would have thought this is obvious for people who handle large sums of cash, perspex screens are standard practice.I doubt the union will have much success with their strike with leaders of this calibre.

Pah!! For most of the station staff, english is not their first language - they could probably improve from talking to the tourists!!

However, I do think they do need some staff for tourists in London - they're virtually the only ones I see using ticket offices.

The train drivers haven't had a leg to stand on since the DLR proved that driverless trains are perfectly viable and just as 'safe' (the perennial excuse for human drivers) as normal trains. The unions have done well keeping their (very well paid) jobs going ...
