GS400 ashtray/lighter door stuck

hello everybody!

ok, 98 GS400. my ashtray/lighter door in the center console is stuck. i open and close it occasionally (just to plug in my cell phone) and it has always worked fine. now all of the sudden it won't open. i don't want to pry it open with a screwdriver (although im sure that would work) and i cannot seem to find the elusive screws that that secure the console. any insight into this mysterious matter is greatly appreciated!

I'm assuming it's the same setup as a GS300. The whole assembly will come out with a good pull - there's no screws. You might need to get a flat bade behind it for some leverage, but it WILL come out, I promise, You can then get to the guts to open it.
