Mot Failure

Hi everybody,

I'm after some advice, my much cherished 2002 is200 sport failed the MOT today on o/s/r and n/s/r suspension bushes.

I have been told that the bushes are not available and that its a Lexus only part which means buying the full rear hub for both sides £300 + around £500 for labour!!! I have read on some posts that its possible to use the bushes off a Vectra but they need altering. Please could somebody tell me which bushes they are and what the process is for doing the job as I splashed out on 4 new tyre for the MOT thinking the bushes would be an easy job and now I've hit a wall. Thanks in advance to anybody who replies.

Lexus Birmingham gave me a rough quote of £900 for 2 new rear hubs but that's if they can get the ball joint out and hit no other problems . I have taken it to a mechanic who ordered the bush in advance only for it to be the wrong one so he tried his supplier who said the parts not available and its Lexus only. The posts I've read haven't gone into much detail but they mention a Vectra bush. I'm not a mechanic so could be wrong.

Ran into the same problem on my old 200.

No Lexus or Toyota will not sell the bushes spare so you cannot replace with OEM unless you buy the whole hub or control arm on the front.

As linked above, bushes are available on the net. I bought some bushes, but then I'm lucky as I have a mate who runs a garage so we went there on a Sunday as you need acess to a ramp and bush press.

I can see why Lexus/Toyota don't want to change just the bushes as it's a bit of a pain of a job and takes an hour or two depending on how easy those bushes come out and go back in. It's so much easier, less labour and more expensive to replace the whole hub or control arms, that's why dealers do that.

Just find out the bush dimensions and type it into Google and I bet you it's pence just pay more for a branded product is all I save loads of money doing this on all sorts of things. At the end of the day it's a rubber bush your bound to come across those specs on a different car
