Extended Warranty

I've just had my MY2011 IS250 F-Sport serviced.

First MoT too.

I got a letter a couple of days later from the dealer.

They are offering and 12 month extended warranty for £795

I nearly fell off my chair!

I've had the car from new and its only done 21k

Running better than ever at the moment.

Is that extended warranty a good deal or are they having a laugh?

Sounds about right, I was offered an extended warranty on my
last GS 450 for just under 1k, and it had only covered 13k miles.

Unfortunately its not the miles it’s the age, once it is 3
years old the car is out of warranty, so you could buy a brand new car put it
in your garage and not use it and it would still be out of warranty after 3
years.

I find this very annoying 3 years or 60k miles, if they are
willing the replace any part up to 60k miles then what has time got to do with
it, I can’t think of many parts that would fale after just time and no use, it
should be at least a 5 year warranty.

Yup, a total rip-off BUT if you want an extended warranty, the Lexus one will be much better than a 3rd-party company - less exclusions etc. However, that's why it costs so much...

Personally, I'd save the cash - I've not had to pay that much for a car repair/breakdown in 27 years of driving :shifty:

Thanks chaps. That gives me the reassurance I'm looking for.

"what has time got to do withit, I can’t think of many parts that would fail after just time and no use, it should be at least a 5 year warranty."

I suppose the air con system might deteriorate faster by not being used?

Good point. Me too. And I'm probably older than you :-)

"That's good. Audi warranty for a year is over 1k."

Wow! When I had the Golf GTI MkV, I toyed with taking out a VW ew.

Mainly because of the DSG.

I kept it for over five years.

No problems. I was lucky, I know.

But maybe also because people like us who visit forums like this, look after our cars?

Although this warranty is sold by and looks every bit Lexus it is underwritten by a entirely different company who squirm like mad to get out of any claim but cave in easily if you can write a decent letter, shame really but that's the normal conduct for any insurance company, If you buy get a quote for 2 years as this stops them increasing the premium after 12 months.

Wow!

By "this warranty", are you referring to the one sold by Lexus/Lexus dealers?

He is correct but you go via lexus. They replaced 1600 of headlights for me due to moisture in them. I don't see it as an issue and wouldn't surprise me if other manufacturers do the same thing.

Although I live in 'sunny' Devon, after shopping around a bit, I renewed my warranty for a further 12months with Lexus Stockport. It covers cars with less than 100k on the clock and less than 10years old. It cost me £414.00 and also gives Roadside Assistance cover for me and her indoors, whatever car we are in.

I have used it recently for replacement of front calipers.

Might be worth a call.

Also no limit in terms of number or value of claims.

Hmmm... Sounds ok

I'll have to give it more thought.

Thanks bluenose and others.

standard pricing is available for the Lexus website:

http://www.lexus.co.uk/owners/warranties-repair/#/ExtendedWarranty

negotigate with your dealer to get a better price. Some dealers can also offer their own warranty instead of the Lexus one for less money (inchcape for example)

the issue with a lot of third party warranties is less items are covered, a value cap per claim and also a cap on labour rates which won't cover the cost of Lexus main dealer hourly rates.
