Tyre Choice & Alignment

Recommended Posts

Hi

I have the Bridgestone RE-050 tyres fitted allround but find the car struggles with standing water and can aquaplane. I have had these tyres on a previous Golf R32 and not had the issue so not sure if its that the geo on the ISF makes it prone to this or its the tyre?

The fronts seem to scrub the inside edge out quickly (i assume a characteristic) and despite several geo checks it continues to do it. Can anyone recommend a decent tracking place please ideally in the Surrey area.

Also any tyre suggestions gratefully received.

thanks

My first set Bridgestones lasted nearly 25k miles with no uneven wear. My second set are now 3k old and are wearing evenly too.

I had no aquaplaning either, though I can't recall many times in 3 years when I've been out in realy wet conditions

Not had any issues with my Bridgestones so far. Tire wear is nice and even. Would recommend trying nitrogen instead of air in them. Mine have been great in terms of ride and maintaining pressure.

Does sound like your geo is screwy?!

Wheels In Motion are very good, but over near Enfield. :(

My local Kwik Fit at Gravesend just installed a proper Hunter 4 wheel laser alignment setup as part of their refit.

Going to give it a try I think. :)

Hope you get it sorted chap.

Cheers.

Peter

I didn't like the bridgestone's that came with the car, grip wasn't great. So once they had worn down i went for Michelin Pilot Super Sport, the difference was night and day!

I found the wet performance in bridgestones wasn't great.

I've had the michelins on for 2 years now (covered about 12k) and it's still got some tread left. However i think i might change to Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 next.

Also has anyone thought of putting bigger rears on? I've been told the rims can handle 275 (instead of 255 standard) and the car has enough clearance to handle them also. Just to give slightly better grip?

perhaps it was because i was nearing the end of the life of my tyre's, but in wet i didn't feel confident in corners and braking, just tended to slip every so often and it wasn't like i was driving at excessive speeds. Soon as i put the michelins on, for me it was like night and day, but then again may have been because i just had new set of tyre's.
