Swapping Rx 300 Engine With Rx 350

I own a 2006 make Lexus Rx 300. It developed transmission problems and some mechanics attempted to repair it to no avail. I have decided to get a new engine which would come attached to a gearbox. Unfortunately I am only able to get Rx 350 engines attached to the gearbox. I am requesting anybody in this forum to advice whether the engine compartment can accommodate an Rx 300 engine together with the gearbox. Second whether the RX 300 engine can be adapted to work in the Rx 300 and lastly what modifications if any can be done to make it work. Last but not least, is it a wise idea to change to RX 350 engine?

Before you go any further I'd get in touch with your insurer and just check that they would be happy to cover the mod and at what cost.

The engine will physically fit but whether you will get the electrics to chat with each other is another thing, it may well just be plug and play but if not it could cost a fortune to get it to handshake.

Thanks Boxbrownie, How about if the engine and transmission came with the computer and harness?

It still has to not only electrically communicate with the rest of the cars system but also physically fit the connectors, often these are changed on facelifts and engine upgrades.

Nothing is insumountable but your going to need time and find the expert to make it work. Who knows though, it might just slide in, plug up and run?

What you need is an independant Lexus specialist who can give you a cleare idea of the pitfalls or bonuses of your quest.
