Lexus Ls400 Mk3 Front Seats Problems

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!

I'm new to this forum so I apologise if I use non professional language.

About 2 months ago I bought my 1995 LS400.

My previous car was Lexus Soarer and I loved it.

Sadly it had to go as my lady delivered two beautiful babies and big car was required.

My LS400 is a lovely car but both front seats are problem.

Heating doesn't work and when taking corners it feels like inner parts of seats is moving a bit.

It never happens when driving straight.

Would anyone knows what is the problem and what could be solution ?

I'll be very grateful for any suggestions.

Rafal

Hi Rafel and welcome.

The Mk3 front seat heater element is a common failing unfortunately and probably expensive to repair .

As for the seat moving about I have not experienced this ,apart from making sure it is securely bolted to the floor I don't know what to suggest.

Congratulations on the baby's and good luck with your car.

As Rupert says seat heaters are a known failure on the series III LS400 and are both expensive and a PITA to repair as the seat needs to be fully dismantled.

Try rocking the seats by pushing on the backs when standing outside the car, never heard of any coming loose unless the previous owner tried to remove them and gave up leaving the mounting bolts loose.

Hi Rafal,

my Mk3 also has front seat heating that doesn't work, although the rears do. As everyone on here says, it is a common problem - I did some research and came upon a tutorial to remove and strip the seats....quite a job and more than a little tricky although not impossible. You can buy retro fit seat heater element kits although you would need to find yourself a good automotive electrician who may be able to help you.

Not had a problem with the seats or part of the seats moving whilst driving....

After 17 years and 183000 miles I am surprised that my front drivers seat heater still works! It does take

a long time to warm up, much slower than the passenger seat. Might be worth leaving it switched on

for a bit longer? Good luck.

Mark.
