Recent mot advisory was

'front lower wishbone control arm bushes cracking'

ordered a pair from lexus at £106 each

however my local mechanic couldn't remove the old ones as his press wasn't powerful enough!

I have since been told that only lexus can do this job at a total price of £535

Has anybody had this job done other than at lexus?

any info gratefully received

If it needs that much force I doubt Lexus even have a suitable press in each service department, have you considered contacting a local engineering shop with a suitable hydraulic press?

Take off the arms and let them remove and refit the bushes then refit.

They may even have to cut the old ones out due to rust/corrosion,doesn't matter if they are scrap.

Burn them out with welding torch or can heat them up and when they go hot and bright you can hit them hard with something to force them out as well.

Also use a air pressure axe saw blade(The garage will know what tool I mean) to cut the inside out and then knock the rest out.

In my spannering days, I always used to use a bus garage for anything heavy duty, they had really powerful presses and didn't charge much.

As Steve2006 said, try to take the part off the car if possible, they'll be far more likely to take the job on.
