News And Reviews Of The Nx

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I thought it'd be a good idea to start a thread on news and reviews on the NX as they seem to be coming through now, especially in the states.

Ill start off by saying that the NX200t and NX300h figures have been released in other parts of the world. 0-60mph are 9.2s for the 300h and 7.1s for the 200t. Power is rated at 194hp for the 300h and 235hp for the 200t.

The fuel economy figures are 32mpg combined for the 300h and 24mpg for the 200t. Note that these are in US mpg on AWD vehicles so no idea how useful they are to us over here. Using a simple calculation based on the RX450h AWD which has 29mpg (US) and 44.8mpg (UK), I worked out that the NX300h should be around 49mpg and the 200t should be about 37mpg give or take here in the UK.

The S models and F Sport/Premier models may differ slightly due to S models being FWD and higher spec models having wider tyres as the current generation IS.

The 200t engine WILL definitely be making its way to other vehicles, mainly the IS and the GS and will replace the 2.5 litre V6. Lexus have said that the engine has been tuned to aid reliability and not power so the engine is almost certainly capable of producing more power than it currently does. Who knows, this may mean that the IS200t/GS200t may have 250hp?

Here are a couple of reviews which you may wish to read:

Thanks for the links.

There are some good clips on Youtube now too. Really looking forward to seeing the NX in October!

Im keen to see the 200t, not so much the 300h.

From the spec sheet, it doesn't look like there is no option of specifying heads up display, 360 degree camera and the Mark Levinson stereo on the F Sport model! Oh my days, hope they make those options available or itll be a no go for me.

I can't buy a car with less toys than the current one! Its like going backwards!

I was thinking of the Premier initially, but I much prefer the front end of the F Sport, so thats probably what I would go for.

Depending on the ride I may go for the adaptive suspension. I currently drive a Q5 with 20" wheels with standard suspension and the ride is great, so hopefully with the F Sport having only 18" wheels, but firmer suspension the ride should be ok, thereby making the adaptive suspension not necessary.

I wish you could spec the 360 cameras, but the one thing that bugs me is that despite it having those fab LED headlights, front indicators, tail/brake lamps they have scrimped and put standard bulbs in the rear indicators. I think that is really penny pinching so I would buy some replacement LED ones.

Role on October!!!

Well I was thinking of possibly buying a NX200t F Sport in Sonic white with red leather and all the toys! I most certainly want the Mark Levinson system, panoramic sunroof, heads up display and 360 degree camera but it seems like these options arent even available. Id probably spec the adaptive suspension for the sake of it too because it seems good value for money at the moment.

Sent a message to Lexus UK via Facebook. This is what I wrote:

Hi,

Just read the new NX brochure and was wondering if the following options can be specified on the F Sport model -

1 - 360 degree camera
2 - Mark Levinson Audio
3 - Heads up display
4 - Heated AND ventilated front seats

Also, is there any news on when the NX200t is landing in the UK?

Thanks

They replied in less than 15 minutes! Talk about good service! Anyway, here is what they said:

Hi Rayaan,

Thanks for your questions. Unfortunately the answer to all of them is
no. They are all available on the Premier model though. The F Sport has
it's own leather seats that are heated only. The launch is October 2014.

Hope this helps.

I guess it helps to make things simpler for them and easier for us to make a decision

I know when I specced up my Q5 there was a bewildering choice of options which was a real headache. This was made even more complicated by some options being tied into other seemingly unconnected options.

The only option on the NX I would like is the 360 cameras so I'm not too concerned. At least it has the rear reversing camera.

I can understand that, however, if you think about it, the Q5 has about 100 options but the NX would only have about 10 altogether which would be OK. Its better to give us a choice rather than limiting options and consequently losing sales because a techie like me cant have all the toys on his new car!

Maybe the NX is meant to be the next transition from the CT in which case it may only be designed for younger customers.

Also, the 360 degree camera is only available on the Premier, as is all the other options I mentioned so you wouldn't get the killer F Sport looks.

The sales strategy in USA is much better and I think Lexus UK could learn a lot from them. They have two F Sport packages imaginatively called F Sport 1 and F Sport 2. The F Sport 1 is essentially the UK spec F Sport. F Sport 2 however, includes the other items such as the 360 degree camera, HUD and ML system. Panoramic roof is not available in North America though

Heres a review by Autocar. As expected, it gets an average 3/5 star review. Apparently the 200t has plenty of power but fuel economy is pretty bad at 34mpg. Hardly any better than the 2.5 litre which is smoother. The new 6 speed seems to be the worst aspect of the car.

I would say that economy is pretty good all things considered. I only get about that out of my Q5 and thats a diesel.

Not so impressed about the ride comments though. Most of the reviews I have watched on YouTube say how good the ride is. They probably have softer suspension set ups though being the reviews all seem to be in Canada...

The review by Autocar is in Canada. If you look at the plates in the real pictures on the review page, it shows the canadian plates on the rear shot! That either means that Autocar is being stupid or the American reviews are being stupid. At the moment it looks like Autocar as they are outnumbered and seem to contradict what the Americans are saying.

As for the economy, 34mpg is claimed. You'll be looking at 28mpg in real life. My RXh does 32mpg on a good day and has enough mid range urge to give the 200t a run for its money.

Heres a review by Autoexpress. Its a bit more balanced and possibly more accurate. http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/lexus/is/87894/lexus-nx200t-2014-review

Top gear review seems very balanced to be honest. It seems that nobody liked the ride on the NX and it doesn't handle as well as expected. http://www.topgear.com/uk/car-news/lexus-nx-first-drive-2014-07-17

I went to Toyota GB this morning for an unveiling of the NX. I wasn't as smitten by the look as I was by the new IS, unfortunately I had another engagement and couldn't stay long.

I will reserve judgement until I've seen a couple more. I didn't like the wheel arch covers which were black, against the white paintwork, looked odd to my eye and a big gap between arch and tyre as well.

The interior was very nice, GS rather than IS quality.

Shame I didn't have more time.

I am with you on the wheel gap. The car is nearly current RX size but has smaller 18" wheels probably so that the ride didnt get too firm. I think there may be a 19" accessory but not too sure until the accessories brochure is out.

Just a quick post to inform you that the PANORAMIC ROOF is now an OPTION on all models apart from SE! This was due to popular demand, mainly me pestering them every day about it lol.

Now just HUD, 360 degree camera, ventilated seats and ML to go!

According to my brochure and my online ordering system from a leasing company, the sunroof was always available from day 1 for Luxury, FSport and Premiere. It was only the S and SE that did not have the sunroof as an option..

originally it was just the F Sport and Premier that could have the sunroof option. But this was just the basic sunroof.

The Pano roof wasn't going to be offered in the UK

Many thanks for the link, a good read. I have to admit to being a Clarkson fan and it was pleasing to see him put himself more in a 'normal' persons position rather than how good it was or wasn't when thrashed.
