Anybody know what this is, over the last two weeks this has happened twice once in drive once in reverse. As car is at idle in gear with foot on brake it jurked very slightly about 4 times in a row. Gear changes up and down smoothly when driving normally. Cheers phil

Phil, It seems that you're unsure when the transmission fluid was last changed. As the car has now reached 170,000 miles, your changing of the fluid is a wise move. Whatever garage you use, don't let them put in Dextron transmission fluid of ANY grade. Insist they use Toyota type IV fluid, which is the correct stuff for the car. Also, don't let them overfill it either, as that also leads to poor gear changing. By the way, a simple 'drain and refill' only replaces about 2 litres, so a flush might be necessary but is not recommended as it stirs up crud. Three 'drain and refills' would be better and safer. Take the car for a run between refills. All the best.

Hi. Rang lexus chester 8-30 this morning for price for box oil change. They didn't know so they would ring me back with a price, 3pm now still not heard from them i thought lexus dealerships were meant to second to none, dont think so.

It might well be that Lexus dealers have just never been asked to change the gearbox oil.

The age at which it might need changing, at mega miles, just takes away the likelihood of a Lexus dealer doing the servicing.

Most owners by that time have an indy doing their maintenance and servicing and it's quite likely that an indy would just advise against a complete change.

Dont understand? What is the problem with giving a custumer a price for a job.

If they can not or will not do the job explain to the custumer, rang them back again at 4pm today they said they would ring me back did they NO.

That is terrible custumer service in my eye's.

If i ran my busines like that im sure id be on the dole.

I would at least to a drain and refill which will change about 1/3 of the fluid. If it comes out a dark or dirty red compared to the new fluid then I would do another drain and refill shortly thereafter. Whilst a flush will get change all the fluid it can cause problems and UK garages aren't really equipped to do auto transmission flushes anyway.

As already stated on the 5 speed transmission only use Toyota T-IV fluid. Unfortunately it is quite expensive.

Dealers not knowing the price for a transmission drain doesn't surprise. It isn't part of the service schedule as there isn't an internal time placed on the fluid.

Actually got a reply from lexus chester yesterday, A WEEK LATER. and this was only through emailing lexus uk and complaining about custumer relationship. Anyway lexus want just over £163 for oil change or nearly £450 with new strainer. After waiting nearly aweek for any response i booked it in with a gearbox specialist on monday so fingers crossed nothing serious
