Cheers steve for details you sent me. Got round to changing bushes sorted problem out.

Well done, was it easy? Last week I had to change the height of one of my headlight low beams. I looked at a couple of forums and the info they gave was enough to make me want to take it to a garage. It actually took me no more than 10 seconds!

Lexus would probably have insisted you replaced the whole headlight unit :)

I hate having to phone lexus dealership you never never get what you want hear. I got a local land rover bloke to do it for me took him about one hour. it took 10 mins to replace bushes 50 mins to get at it and put it back together, £20 im not complaining. going get him do a fluid change now on gearbox just waiting for him to let me know how much fluid is going to cost, think will just have strainer cleaned.

Sorry sir, an update, they now only come with a new car! Seriously, I'm sure we get too concerned about some of the work on these cars. Not all, but it seems much can be achieved but delving deeper, and especially finding a good local garage with a knowledge of Lexus. Fortunately we have one here in West Sussex (actually he's just over the border in East Sussex!)

The "O" ring on the earlier LS400 power steering pump is a good example. Lexus wouldn't tell you the leak could be repaired for £1.50, you only get that kind of info from forums like this.

Phil

I know from long experience with Lexus dealerships how service can vary after all it is run by human beings,Over the years I have used their expertise and services and in the main they are pretty good Their rationalle is based on replace parts for the main reason of cost, in that their labour rate is charged by the hour on a constant for job timing worked out by time and motion people at Lexus.

The policy of just in time parts ordering does not only keep costs down but saves on storing unwanted spare parts and anything else that clutters the place up ,there lies the knub of your complaint they do not strip and repair factory sealed components for that reason ,the workshop would be full of half finished or waiting for spares vehicles and irate customers at reception asking when their beloved car is going to be ready.

This philophosy permeates the whole system and you are correct in saying that the Service Manager probably does'nt know that a part can be repaired he is'nt trained to .I hope this insight explains a few things and makes it easier for you to talk to Lexus in the future, after all they did build your car.

Can you provide details of the garage please, as I am returning to West Sussex after a couple of years in Newcastle and want some work doing on my MK4 that's just turned 16 years and with 168,000 miles on her.

It's called Grove Garage, and it's in Cambridge Grove Hove. Tel: 01273 773055 You'll find them if you Google them. They refer to themselves as "Toyota and Lexus specialists" The owner drives a Lexus and is very knowledgeable. I was put onto them by another LOC member. They're in a very busy mews, and it's very impressive watching them get a big car into a seemingly impossible space!
