Lexus Is Mk1 Replacement Denso Keys (Link In Post)

Hi all, I think this is my first post, I haven't use the forum in a while so I'll reintroduce myself if I haven't already done so. I'm Dill, 21 years old from Leicester. Have been driving a IS200 sport for around 4 months now that was acquired off my father who no longer needed it. Have loved driving it so far, the silky smooth straight six is just ace.

Just thought I'd post a link for you all, I'm aware that a lot of Lexus IS and users of other models have issues with the key casing cracking and breaking due to the poor design of the shell. Since I acquired my lexus I have had the OEM key break on me, which had cracks in it when I acquired the car, and two non branded lexus keys also crack and snap.

I was surfing on eBay looking for genuine Lexus keys and I came across these OEM Denso keys from Hong Kong and for a couple of quid they look like a steal so I ordered two. What I plan to do is take the innards out of the two aftermarket keys I have at the moment, put them into these Denso keys that I have just ordered, then take them to a local auto locksmith to have the keys cut down to size.

Just posted my first topic too, my advice is watch out for these. I recently ordered some "official" ones offline as i broke my original OEM key (They have a tendancy to snap under years of pressure of being turned in the ignition), though when i received them and took them to a key cutter, I ran into issues. Mainly because the metal shaft of the Keys were too long. Also not sure if it is the same as yours but the top of the key is pretty thin and this is hard for a key cutter to replicate.

The ones I ordered came with gold metal too and they were useless - might be better to check the length before ordering them.

I had to claim on my keycare insurance and get my replacement from a dealer.

Hi thanks for the reply, I've just received them and they seem like the genuine OEM ones, they're the ones with the gold shaft. They also have the gold lexus logos on the rear of the key. I've taken the transponders out of the old keys and put them in the new keys and they're a snug fit. Just need to get the keys cut now which is the main obstacle but I'll do another post on how I got on with that. I'll include some photos of the new keys!

Not saying they are bad, but the DENSO lettering is defo not the same as my 3 original keys...just saying.

Not going to lie, I did have a doubt for £2 a shell but for that price you may as well give it a go! :D if these break I will definitely be going back to lexus but I thought I may as well give these a go before. I'll let you know how I get on with these after some use. Won't be keeping any other keys on the keyring as they could bash against the shell causing it to crack and weaken. Like I said I'll let you know how I get on and it'll be good to hear if you experiences as well.

I went down this route and the ones i received online were rubbish found a keycutter who copied my original key (finally as a lot of them refused) and the new key worked in the lock but would not turn the ignition. Hope you have better luck than i did.

In the end i got a replacement from lexus. It was cheaper to get a new key with an uncoded transponder in than a key without the transponder. If you do go this route do not pay lexus the 50 pounds they want to code the new transponder. I just downloaded instructions online how to code it to the car by using a series of steps in the car car turning ignition on / off so many times and opening closing the door. Couldn't actually believed this worked and only took 2 mins to do. Better than giving lexus £50.
