Rx300 Tyres Goodyear Eff Grip

Recommended Posts

Hi

Two questions please

1 - is there any reason why I can't replace two T rated fronts with H rated?

2- does anyone have any experience of the Goodyear 215/70/16 effgrip 100H tyres

Many thanks

You certainly can replace T rated tyres with H rated tyres. Its just a speed rating and H has a higher speed rating than T anyway so no issues there.

No experience with those tyres but although they are very quiet at 67db and reasonably good in the wet with a C rating, they are shocking for rolling resistance which is rated at E! You may see your fuel bills go up slightly because of it!

Hmm thats odd, Cat E you say? My new Audi Hybrid comes as standard with GY EG tyres as they are supposed to be fuel efficient, my son also has them fitted to his BMW 1 series...........

All I can say about them is I find them excellent in both ride and NVH, not sure about economy on mine as obviously its the first set of tyres, but I know my son said his fuel economy went up a bit to and from Uni after he replaced the previous odd set that was fitted......oh yes and he reckons the wet grip is brilliant to, not something I am willing to test to much in a brand new 47K car :D

I know different sizes of the very same tyres often come out with different ratings (usually fuel) due to size and contact patch as well as speed rating.

As an adjunct, I have a set of Michelin Primacy 3 on my RX300........225/60x17 and I find them and excellent tyre, quiet, smooth, excellent wet grip and seem to be wearing very well.

Not sure what the 16" version will be like............

Thanks for the comments

I've ordered the goodyears and they will be fitted on Wednesday, so will report back in due course.

I was particularly attracted by the wet braking and noise stats. We don't do that many miles so fuel economy isn't a major problem

RRP was supposedly £121 each, but we have got the pair through the asdatyres site for £193, ie £91.50 each including fitting etc.

They are being fitted by Jet at Pitsea who we've used over the years but they couldn't match the price buying through them. The tyre on supply only is available around £80

What surprised me was one of the suggestions made by one of the the tyre places we spoke to who suggested I go for "the excellent budget tyre, the jinyu. Erm........I think not!!
