Qi Charging In The Nx

Recommended Posts

Anyone have an details about the Qi charging ''tray' in the NX?

I'm about to replace my phone and concerned that the tray maybe too small for something like the Sony Z3.

Anyone know what the dimensions are for the Qi tray?

I tried my Nexus 5 in the charging tray at the Lexus NX event my local dealer put on the other day. It was a good fit for the Nexus 5 but I must say there didn't seem much room for a bigger phone than that. There was a little space around it but not much. It did work well though, took a few seconds to kick in but apparently the magnet automatically moves around to find the charging point on any compatible phone. Pretty cool!

I popped along to my local dealer to have a first look at the NX (even though I've already ordered one). And tried the Qi tray. I have a the new Sony Z3 which is not itself Qi capable without a Qi case. However, you'll see above that Lexus confirmed to me that the Qi tray was 150mm long by 90mm wide. The Z3 is 146x72. Easy fit. Right ?

Noope - the Z3 does NOT fit in the Qi tray completely flat. And this is without the case remember. I don't doubt the width (it is about 90mm) but the length is more like 140mm, not 150mm.

Very much doubt Lexus are going to release other trays for bigger phones. So this feature, might be as much use as a chocolate fireguard.
