Click/tick Noise From Rear Wheels When Braking

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

So I changed my brake disc and pads with genuine Lexus parts about a month ago. All was fine until for past week or two there is a click/Tick noise when I apply the brake pedals.

This noise is annoying and a bit loud when I am slowing down or going below 5MPH. I hate it as when the car is all washed and looking sexy in the black colour coming to a stop make this stupid noise and people look :( not at the car but wonder where this noise is coming from.

Had a look on forums but could not find anything?

I have lubricated the slider pins

Used genuine parts

Any suggestions please?

I assume that the shims (anti squeak plates) were cleaned and lubricated and everything went back in as it should.

My first guess would be you have something caught on the brake rotor itself, or damage to the surface, does a visual inspection reveal anything? Check everything is tight whilst you're there.

Hi Mouser, thank you for your reply.

Actually I have one of the shims missing on the pad. Come to think of it that's where the noise is coming from. However a friend told me that it doesn't matter.

Will look closely after work. Thank you

To test whether it's a shim issue, you could try to apply disc brake grease liberally to the point that you're adding it as sound deadening rather than lubrication. I'd still expect my first guess to reveal something though, even if it's just a burr or loose bolt.

Since you know you're missing it, getting one from a breaker or from Toyota is worth doing anyway.

Thanks for the link but breakers don't sell it here and want me to buy the whole clipper tried many today. May just have to order some from US. Lexus Edingburgh want £60. Shame so much more is available in the US than UK

Gonna try the grease this weekend.
