Faulty Ho2S Heater Circuit Malfunction, Bank 1 Sensor 1

Hi my engine light came on and the AA told me it was p0135 and o2 heated circuit bank 1 sensor 1.

I took it to my local garage who always repairs all my cars. He advised me that if he replaced the sensor the other sensors would need to be replaced plus the exhaust. He said he would have to remove the manifolds and he was worried doing this due to the age of the car (is 200 2003 160k miles) would disturb the system and sensors . He quoted around 1000 pounds and said that it would be best to leave it. He said I would only save 50 pounds a year on fuel. He advised me the car would be fine and it'd not really important.

Is this true and secondly if the heated part malfunctioned which allows the sensor to heat quicker does the sensor still work??

Common fault replaced mine just sensor one light off ,no problems since

Its not the fault that is the issue. Its weather i can drive with out it. The mechanic said to change the sensor he needs to remove the manifolds etc.. but due to wear and tear of the metal manifolds plus pipe and threads which he said are not in the best of condition removing could cause issues and further damage ao he would need to replace these parts.

He said its fine to drive and to come back next year? ?

Yes you can drive it .ecu goes into default mode .will deliver a richer mixture ,mpg will go down .as not the most economic car to start with its up to you .took me 15 mins to change obviously yours may be different .i would get another mechanics advice

When the ecu goes in default mode will that affect the drive or power of my car like acceleration etc...

find another garage and never go back to that one. You don't need to replace other sensors, the manifolds don't need to be removed and you don't need a new exhaust (unless there is a separate issue).

it shouldn't take more than 30 mins to replace the sensor.

Bank 1 sensor 1 will be the easiest to get to, will be the only one before the cat. Probably a £150 fix tops!

Ill take it to another mechanic. I'm assuming my mechanic was bit nervous to do it but will see what the other mechanic says

this is really the same for both B1S1 and B2S1

It does with this engine, 1-3 and 4-6 have separate exhaust manifolds, precats and O2 sensors.

Bank 1 sensor 1 most likely to fail,luckily easier to change .would advise stick with denso,

Agreed, stick with Denso. A direct fit Denso replacement will cost around £65

Up to you ,toyota price for sensor 160 ish plus book time for fitting,certainly less than your mechanics quote

Lexus advised it can be replaced . They did me a whole car check but didnt mention anything about thr sensors or pipe threads etc.. they even mentioned my wiper blades so im sure they would of not missed the threads sensors etc...

They quoted me 379 for the sensor including labour

Take that quote back to an independent, I'm sure the price will be closer to what I said!

agreed, you should be able to get it done for around £150 including the part.

I dont know any decent mechanic i can trust to not mess the sensor replacement up. Bit worried they fix it and mess something else up
