My sat nav does not work or menu button, therefore cannot reset time clock.

Fault says open door and check cd rom.

When using the fault check system i.e., audio/climate /lights.

It says sat nag 58.53.

All others settings on screen okay.

Can you make suggestions?

Do I need to get a new sat nav cd rom?

If so which one.

Love the car.

Thanks.

Paul

When I owned my previous LS400 (Mk IV) version, there were occasions where the Sat Nav display would say 'Unable to read CD-ROM' and then when I took key out of the ignition and put key back in, it would come back to life. It sounds like ageing / temperamental electrics.

You could try to source a used Nav Disc device from a breakers yard if the actual Nav Disc device in your car is no longer working but if it's the wiring from the boot to the dashboard, that will be more tricky and time-consuming to fix.

My car had the original 1998 CD Rom and I bought the 2007 CD Rom from Lexus for £100 in 2012 (I didn't want to risk buying something non-genuine) and it made such a difference to the car. Lexus do not issue updated CD Roms updated beyond 2007.

If your LS has had a case of damp boot syndrome recently, then there is the possibility that the CD unit in the boot has had (or still has) condensation issues, or the connectors have got a little damp.

Taking it out and making sure it is nice and dry might cure problems.

Having had damp boot syndrome in current and previous LS, I was surprised at the dampness up by CD unit, but in my case it did not seem to affect the unit at all, but worth having a look as this time of year condensation is likely to be worse in a cold boot.

Cheeky sods, £100 for a five year out of date disc, think I'll stick with my Tom Tom...... same price, but bang up to date for Western Europe with free updates for life.

Out of interest Nach, how functional was the nav with the 2007 disc?

Having got used to Tom Tom, I couldn't be bothered unless it took post codes.

Mike - I totally agree with you that £100 for a CD is a bit of a rip off especially given that you can buy much better products such as a Garmin and Tom Tom and as you rightly say, the maps would have been 5 years out of date but my car still had the original 1998 CD map.

The main reason I bought the CD was that I wanted to keep the car as original as possible plus I wanted my car to stand out a bit more as I was looking to sell the car on too so anything to make my car stand out a bit more was a good thing.

The maps were without question a big step forward in terms of being more up-to-date with new roads and streets, etc. it still had the same types of POIs too. and as I do a lot of driving up & down the UK, I prefer to use the built-in system rather than an aftermarket product.

For my Audi A8, Audi UK wanted £200 for an updated DVD for the Navigation but after hunting around for alternative DVDs, I found another DVD for £40.

Other than eBay, I haven't found updated Navigation CDs for sale for Lexus

Thanks Nach.

Must admit, I usually know where I'm going these days, so only use sat nav for new journeys or if a diversion is needed.

If I was using it day in, day out, I'd probably get fed up of messing round with a stick on job.

Came as standard when I bought it a year or so back, and I believe it's still the case on most Tom Tom kit, maybe other brands too for all I know.

I get four emails a year prompting me to connect to my pc for the latest maps.

For your info I got the TomTom Go 400 purely because it is 4.3" screen and not huge like they tend to come nowdays. And mine had free lifetime maps and free lifetime traffic if used with phone's Bluetooth. Cameras only free for 3 months and then I have to pay
