Auto Headlights

Is there a way to change the darkness level at which the auto headlights come on or a time that it has to be dark before they come on?

At the moment they seem to come on in the mornings when they don't need to. I have noticed that if the switch is in auto and they come on, if you then put the switch into off then back to auto they do not come on again. Also they tend to come on if you go under a bridge where it is temporarily dark then go off again. This could cause other drivers to think you have flashed your lights at them. I thought it should have a time delay when it has to see it dark for a long time, say 1 minute, before they come on. That way they could tell the difference between a bridge and night.

Do you have the nav option or not. The instructions seem to be different for each - Google "headlight sensitivity setting on lexus ct 200" and you'll be offered two different pdf's - the settings are shown at around number 10-12 ish

Mine is the 2013 advance so the nav option is a Tom Tom in the dash so no nav option as far as the car is concerned. Looks like it may be a new feature for the latest model. I'll dig the manual out tomorrow and have another look at the settings.

Without nav it says

Press the DISP switch several times until the settings screen

Press and hold the DISP button to enter customise mode screen

Press DISP again and select vehicle

Press and hold DISP button to view customisation options

Sorry if that doesn't work - I don't have a non nav but it's what is in the pdf I found

Here are setting options for non nav:

http://www.lexus.com/pdf/service/CT200h-without-nav-LPS.pdf

Having 2012 model I do not recall many of those options, think the list may be for 2014 model.

If it's not there you have 2 options - dealership or going for mini elm Bluetooth interface (abt £5.50) and carista obd2 app for android (pro version abt £12.50 or so) - it allowes to castomize all options including dealer ones plus fault code reader. Great app, deff worth the money. They are working on iOS version at the moment. This option is cheaper and let's you play with many cars, not just Lexus whenever you want.

Do not know Paul where in Cheshire you live, but if not far from Stockport you could use my interface.

I have other question regarding auto headlights - when light switch is in auto and lights are on, if you turn off engine lights stay on until door are opened. As per above attachment newer cars (my guess?) have option to turn if off. Is there any way to turn it off in 2012 model?

Edit: Did more reading and the option I mention above does not turn off lights immediately upon powering off the car, it sets the time lights will stay on after you open the driver door. :eerrrmm:

I find this annoying to be honest. When I power off car, I would have expected headlights to turn off - unless you have set delay to not to.

I haven't found a setting to do this.

Looks like you'll have to open the door or turn them off at the switch.

We are all getting very lazy. On my sons mini you have to wind the windows yourself, lock all the doors yourself, put the lights and wipers on yourself, and even change gear yourself. What we did a few years ago on our own without thinking is now frustrating if the technology does not do exactly what we want.

It would be a simple software mod but we don't yet have complete customisation of all the cars features.

We are getting lazy - in every aspect of life. Just thought sitting in your car, with ignition off & lights on would not have helped the subsequent economy. If Battery is low, engine runs longer = more fuel used.

For me the setting should be:-

OFF = Lights off with ignition

5 secs = 5 second delay after door open.

10 secs = 10 second delay after door open.

and so on.

Our cars are great, so we do tend to nit pick. lol.

I take a different view. I have automatic lights on all 3 of my cars and it's a facility that I have NEVER used.

I switch my lights on when it gets dark, and switch them off when it gets light, or when I stop the car. Simples!

It's a great new feature. Let's the driver be in complete control of when the lights are on or off. Same applies to the wipers. It's because the Lexus CT driver is more intelligent than the electronics.

The lights staying on when you turn the car off is wierd unless they stay on post getting out the car as a follow me home mode, having to open the door is silly.

Personally major fan of auto lights and think they should be mandatory, number of people I see driving around with no lights in the dark because they have forgotten to turn them on is quite a hazard. Do however think they should come on at a much more sensitive light ️Level if you are using your windscreen wipers - quite often end up turning mine on manually in poor weather even though the system still thinks it isn't dark enough to require.

I think auto lights is a great feature, but it can be annoying: I use a Peugeot 208 as a runabout. When driving along tree-lined country roads on a sunny day, the lights keep switching on/off all the time. Unfortunately, you can't adjust the sensitivity...

On the other hand, when the auto-wipers go over a certain speed/fequency, the lights get activated automatically , which I think is a neat feature.

With the now common optitron ( I think that's how it's spelt ) display's, it gives you a false feeling your lights are on when in fact they are not. This is why I leave mine on Auto & agree they should be mandatory.
