Servicing And Extended Warranty

Recommended Posts

Popped into Lexus Edinburgh today to take out a 3 servicing plan and extend the warranty by two years taking it to five. I was surprised to find out that no one in the dealership knew if I could extend the warranty this far in advance, the original runs till July 2017. They are going to contact Lexus and check it out. Also, it seems that the Gold members discount does not apply to the service plan, I was hoping to get a bit of a discount on the £1001 cost of the first three services. The reason for no discount was that they said the the plan was already discounted and can't have a double discount. I would be interested on any views on this and any info to the contrary.

But on a better note, I managed to install a Blackvue dash cam today and the wiring although temporary for the moment is pretty well hidden. Just need to work on the rear camera and get the wiring all tidied up correctly.

Ask them what the standard major and minor service costs are. Maybe it is slightly discounted, not much though.

I was told by a dealer that the two year plan could be added to a 12 month old vehicle - I didn't purchase it so whether the sale actually would have gone through or not I don't know but the salesman didn't seem to think it was a problem.

I was speaking to a salesperson yesterday in regard to the IS300h that I am thinking of buying and he has quoted me £35 per month for 3 years for the service plan which I am thinking seems rather expensive. I will need to investigate this further.

Also, he said that I could buy the extended warranty that is currently on offer at £795 for two years and that this would kick-in when the manufacturers warranty ends in two years time. In effect I will then have a car that has 4 years warranty on it. Having said that I'm not sure that it will all fall into place as easily as that bearing in mind what Colin has said about buying it this far in advance. It will be interesting to see what Lexus come back with on this point.

Colin, I see that you have fitted a dashcam, is it just a front one or front and rear? I will be really interested in your comments regarding this as it is something that I have been considering for a few weeks now but have yet to make a final decision as to which one to get.

Geoff, I bought the Blackvue DR650GW-2CH which comes with both front and rear cameras. I managed to fix the front one behind the rear view mirror towards the right hand side, that way it is hidden virtually completely by the mirror. I took the power cable up to the headlining and easily tucked it in all the way to the L/H pillar. Unclipped the pillar cover to route the cable in behind it, and then tucked it into the weatherstrip down to the bottom of the dash. There is a small plastic panel that runs the width of the glove box that can be eased out a bit and the cable tucked in. At the centre console, you can pull of the triangular trim piece and run the wire behind this and eventually continue to the glove box. This is only temporary just now as once I get the rear once fitted I'll hard wire everything into the fuse box and fit the module that powers the system while parked and shuts off at a predetermined Battery voltage. As far as the picture quality goes, fairly impressed so far and hopefully it'll get better when it stops piddling down. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Thanks for this info Colin, very useful. Having sold my IS250 (I am currently Lexusless (the pain is quite chronic!) I am getting closer to getting me an IS300h and, I am thinking that I might get the dealer to include the fitting of a dashcam as part of the deal, I will be buying the dashcam of course.

Did you buy yours via PoliceWitness http://policewitness.com/ or did you get it from somewhere else?

I purchased the camera from the authorised Blackvue retailer "http://blackvueshop.co.uk", only took a couple of days to arrive.

Interestingly on the servicing costs, I had a look at the Lexus U.K. Site and found that their official pricing is £66 cheaper than the amount I paid this afternoon. Need to have a little word in the Lexus ear about that.

He is pulling a fast one. Full service pricing is £445 for major and £245 for minor. Over three years, assuming you need 2 major and 1 minor, that is £1,135 or £31.53 per month for 36 months. Most dealers will give a 10% discount if you are purchasing a vehicle at the same time.

Just fired off a mail to Lexus Edinburgh enquiring as to why it costs £1001 for two intermediate and one full service with no LOC discount. But according to Lexus U.K. the three services are priced at £935 and should be eligible for the LOC discount bringing the total down to around the £800 mark.

The one good thing about the new servicing model is transparency now that Lexus have actually published the pricing on their website. Before then you just have to take your dealers word.

The bad point is the massive increase in service costs without the ability to shop around.

Is there any deals for two year servicing?

you can get two or three year plans. The standard price doesn't offer any discount, some dealers may give you up to 10%. The benefit of the service plans are spread payments and you lock in the price at the start, so if servicing costs increase you don't pay any extra.

The Inchcape Service Plan seems very cost effective but, surely it's insufficient cover to meet the Lexus costings.

it was either taken out before the price hike or a service plan outside of an official Lexus one. A franchise/dealership could create their own plan and charge their own prices but this is something that Lexus seem to be stopping.

Just checked mine. 3 services at 10k/annual interval, taken out in Sept 13 was £907 inc VAT. Taken out via Lexus Croydon, administration by EMaC (don't really know who they are).

I received an invoice for my first service for info purposes and it was £160 inc VAT.

Hiya David, your first service seems incredibly cheap. Paying £160.00 for it leaves £747 to be split between two more services. If you have one more at the £160.00 during the three years would mean one of the services costing £587.00.

Was the first one slightly different to what is normally classed as a 'minor' service?

The invoice states intermediate 10k/1yr service with all the usual consumables, grease and engine flush etc.

Checked my docs for the service plan and they are with EMAC as well, can't say I have heard of them. I'm still waiting on a reply to my enquiry as to why the service plan was £65 more expensive than the published Lexus prices, but I think I will cancel the plan next week. All in all I do like the car and plan to keep it for a few years, but the legendary Lexus customer care is lacking a bit. Since initially looking at purchasing eight months ago I've had the following;

did consider waiting on the NX and the salesman who was going to a launch in Spain said he would send pictures and details - no info received.

On buying the IS, I was told that I would be sent the details of the service plan - no info received.

Six weeks after collecting the car I went into Lexus and asked them to send me details of the service plan - no info received

Took the car back as there was a problem with residue remaining on the roof from the adhesive plastic paint protection, this left two lines fron side to side that needed cleaning off and the roof re-polished.

Loose Battery terminals

As mentioned above, the variable figures for servicing which has not yet been answered or my query acknowledged.

I think it's getting close to the time where I will contact Lexus U.K.

Be sure to read the small print on the Service Plan because I think that you will find that there is an administration fee taken at whatever point you choose to cancel the plan. The only time they don't take one is if you change your car and move the old plan to the new car. My D/D is also payable to EMAC, I think that they are merely the adminstrators of the plan.

With regard to getting info from Lexus, I have asked three times for the Terms and Conditions applicable to a PCP Plan and as of this moment I still haven't got them. If I don't get the info soon, I will either go to another dealer, although this will entail a bit of a trip as my 3 nearest are all part of the same group or, I will go and have another look at a 'C' class.

The prices for the services are all published on line, Lexus claim they should be the same in all dealers and include all labour, VAT and consumables. I guess this doesn't stop some dealers from offering specials or opting out though.

http://www.lexus.co.uk/owners/servicing-and-maintenance/index.tmex#/ServicingYourLexus

You can also download documentation which explains what they should do for each one on the same page.

For the IS, prices are published as £245 for intermediate and £445 for a full one. 60k and 100k mile services are more.

I didn't have to pay for my recent intermediate one (lease car) and i didn't get to see any bills or paperwork either other than a vehicle condition sheet, which was all ok, so I can't comment on what mine would have been.
