Rx400H Fuel Consumption

Hi all

I'm new to Lexus and this forum so here goes.

I got my RX400H SR 2008 on 03/01/15 and since then have done 500 miles so I thought I'd reset the trip computers to see what the economy was like as before I did the average was about 30 ish which I was quite happy with as petrol is 7p a litre cheaper and 30 was about 23 mpg beter than me Jeep was doing. Since I reset the trips the average has gone down to 26 which is still a bit cheaper but not as good. Short journeys and around town seem to kill it which is what I thought the hybrid system was good for. Will it get better.

Cheers Peter.

Hi Peter

I also have a 2008 400H SR, which I bought in Dec'2014.

I reset the trip computer then, and have done around 900 miles since. My average is 30.9 (by the trip computer - I realise filling tank to tank and calculating will likely give slightly different figures).

My first 2-3 weeks I was averaging 29mpg (mixture of v.short journeys and 10-15 mile ones). However have done around 500 motorway miles (in 1 weekend) since then which did help edge the average things up slightly.

I'd say your figures look fine to me. The hybrid is good on short journeys but there is the initial mpg hit while the engine warms up, which as a percentage of the distance/time is more exaggerated on short trips.

My commute is about 1.5 miles, and the engine takes maybe 1 mile of that to warm up, depending how cold it is outside etc.

Hope that helps - and enjoy your RX.

I am getting 36.6 mpg checked for 2000 miles, mostly long journey or from ascot to Uxbridge a and B roads. In the 2000 miles 800 miles was from London to Lake District round trip.
