Hi, I have just bought a 2007 IS220d with 124,000 on the clock, it runs really well and smoothly in all but 6th gear.

When doing 70mph in 5th, if I change up to 6th and accelerate, I get a vibration as if I was driving over cats eyes at speed or seamed concrete. Its at about 1.5k - 2k rpm and continues until I get to about 80mph where it seems to go away. You can hear it as well as feel it.

It almost feels as if the car is at too low revs and is struggling in that gear? but surely I should be able to use 6th at 70mph without a problem?

Thanks for any advice.

You got it....the car is at too low revs.

When i had a 220d I could only use 6th when doing more than 85mph Only ever used it in France.

Stick in 5th at 70/75mph and all will be fine.

Had the same problem myself with my previous is220d.

Anything below 85mph in 6th and the car would vibrant as though it was going to cut out. Only at 90mph + it felt usable, but as the speed limit here in the uk is 70mph your better off forgetting you have a 6th gear and use 5th.
