I have driven an ls430 for about 50,000 miles and have found it very reliable and a pleasure to drive. Now the family are gown up i am thinking of changing to an sc430. Does anyone have experience of the two? How do they compare?. I generally use for a daily commute of about 70 miles round trip on a and B roads?

Same engine, same build quality, but one can carry 5 in comfort and one can carry 2, but with wind in their hair.also similar running costs, but the sc won't go below 6k but the ls will keep dropping in value.

Everyone loves the sc but be careful on colour I personally don't like black, red and silver on this car,I also know most people prefer the walnut compared to the yellow maple, so think of that when your ready to sell next time.

But it's your car your choice, which ever you choose enjoy it.

There's a big difference in the purpose of the two cars so it's hard to compare them, really. If you were playing top trumps you might say the LS is better in every respect except the SC is smaller, lighter, a little more 'sporty' and of course it has a very clever folding roof for top down motoring.

The LS has far superior ride quality, space, driver aids and creature comforts so if you can live without the huge list of extras the LS has, the SC430 could be for you. It's rewarding to drive, reliable and fun but if it is your only mode of transport it's worth thinking about the practicalities. You can't fit 4 adults into it and it doesn't have very much boot space with or without the roof on.

I think you have all the important points here, but to recap: -

  1. Boot is small, and non-existant with the roof down.
  2. Ride is harder.
  3. SC is more fun, it just is :)
  4. SC will keep value better.

Barry I am back on the site posting another topic so thought I would chip in with what I think of my SC.

In spite of my Battery drain woes you might read on my latest topic that I really like this car. The fit and finish is like no other car I have ever owned Even better dare I say than my 450H in some areas. It wafts you along with a refinement and total quiet except for a bit of tyre noise. I am no fast driver anymore just want a relaxing easy time so don't ever push it around the country lanes but with the top down on a nice sunny day around a local beauty spot there is nothing else I have ever driven that gives such driving enjoyment. Have you been sick yet. No really like many on this site as I have said in my other post everyone is keen to help as they want everyone to enjoy the marque and are really enthusiastic. Yes it hasn't the finest lines from some angles but you find another car that looks like new inside after 57000 miles and the paint finish too also amazes me. Total quality.
