What Have You Had Replaced Under The Lexus Extended Warranty?

Recommended Posts

Just curious what items RX owners have needed replacing or fixing under the warranty and at what mileages.

So far on my RX400h I've had one seized rear caliper, leaking tail lights, leaking air con condenser and valves, and a leaking water pump replaced, all at between 76 - 86K miles.

Only had my IS250 for 3 months and really enjoying it. I took out the extended warranty at £795 for 2 years. I really hope I don't have to use it, but if the gearbox fails I'll be extremely glad I have it.

I took it out to give me peace of mind about potential major failures. However, it is encouraging that relatively minor items (boot seal, mirror servos, sensors) are also covered. Seems good value to me ! :)

Are those gearboxes prone to failure?

One thing to be aware of with the Lexus extended warranty is the £2000 maximum limit per claim, so I'm not sure that it would cover the full cost of a new transmission. But even with a couple of small repairs (e.g. two new calipers) you will have broken even.

Thanks for that Tom. I haven't read about the claim limit you refer to, maybe I missed it ? The only limit I'm aware of is total claims mustn't exceed the initial purchase price of the vehicle, local Service Manager told me that.

As you correctly say, a couple of minor repairs will make the warranty worth while. In fact, I'll be very happy not to make a claim, the peace of mind I have will enhance my driving experience without worrying too much about unexpected events.

The £2000 claim limit is a different warranty available from Lexus and is much cheaper than the 2 year extended warranty.

Just looked at the Lexus extended warranty terms and conditions on their website, and I can't find any mention of the £2000 claim limit now. The 24 month 'Lexus Care' extended warranty also now seems to cover multimedia equipment, something which was excluded on the Lexus policy that came with my approved used 5 year plus car.

They are selling this policy for any car less than 10 years old with under 140K miles. Have they made changes to their existing policy or are there two different warranties that Lexus are offering?

I took out an extra 2 year warranty as well.

It's peace of mind as much as anything...

I bought my 400 in June 2011 at 93K milage with a 12 months warranty included - ayear later I decided that as I was keeping the car I would purchse the 2 year extended warranty, i month later I noticed green liquid in the drive under the car. I had this checked out by Lexus Bradford and was told the transaxle was leaking. this was replaced under the warranty and would have cost me £3500 otherwise. Since then I have bought another 2 year warranty and intend to change the car next year when this runs out. It may sound a bit expensive but I prefer the peace of mind of knowing all the major items and some of the not so major ones are covered
