Hi,just wondering if anyone can tell me what this means.Every time I turn on the radio this message appears for a few seconds REG OFF,message then disappears. The radio, cds all play as normal. Doesn't seem to be any problems with system just wondering what it's all about.

Cheers Steve

It stands for Region. It allows the listener to lock down the stations to those being broadcast in your region of the country. This only works for those countries whose broadcasters use this.

I believe that if you have Reg set to 'on' it reduces the amount of hopping around the frequencies.

With AF turned on a list of alternative frequencies is downloaded to the radio, which the radio can use to jump to an alternative stronger signal, when the one being listened to drops below a certain threshold.

If Reg is selected the radio downloads a list of pairs of frequencies for stations, one being a regional variation of the other. I suppose the analogy is TV where we would have BBC One Yorkshire and BBC One Lincolnshire on different frequencies. If you were moving whilst watching one of those TV channels, and the signal became too weak, it would switch to the other giving you a different regional variation of the same station.

Sorry, I am no expert - so may be vague on detail, but this is what I found by Googling around.

Brilliant forum banter, BTW I've renewed your subscription to the freeview channel BBC Parliment as you requested :)

I think you misunderstood. I asked for the Comedy channel. Actually, I could see how the two are easily confused

Thanks for the info. While we are on the subject of radios is there an easy way of finding out if the code has been set on my radio, without unplugging it?

If I do unplug the radio and it stops working is there a way of resetting the code, cos I dont have the code.I want to replace the bulbs in it,anyone know what bulbs I would need?

I got as far as removing the trim around the gear selector & then lost my nerve. But I did mange it without breaking anything,or having bits leftover and it all fitted back together perfectly. This is a first for me,so I'm feeling pretty pleased with myself.

thanks Steve

I think there is some info on radio codes and setting them in the Owners Handbook.

The light failing on the radio is a common problem - it is not working on either of my cars (like that when I bought them) - but it is not an easy fix. It is not simply a case of replacing a bulb.

I did some reading on this with a view to fixing the light but decided it was not worth it. From memory, the light is soldered onto the printed circuit board (PCB) and there is some dismantling of the radio involved in order to access the PCB. Then you have to be pretty good at soldering and, of course, run the risk of damaging the PCB ...

There is a link somewhere on what is involved - it will be either on here or the US Forum.

How dare you sir ! :megaangry:

No, I'm not. That's why I can sleep at night with a clear conscience

I take it back.

If you have any conscience, clear or otherwise, you're definitely not a politician :)
