Back Door's Wont Open/lock On Key Fob Or Power Button

Recommended Posts

Hi Guy's

i have a 2008 is220d and the 2 Back doors wont open/ lock with the key fob or power switch on drivers door.

I have to open/lock the two back doors using the inside button on back door itself.

Key fob and power button open both front doors just neither of the back doors.

I had a local auto electrician check it out and he says everything seems to be working, signal going to the door lacks but for some reason locks not opening.

i have tried setting the key fob up to open all doors but no joy.

The guy i bought car from said it never opened them but he was told its a setting from the factory and can be reset by a Lexus dealer.

I find it hard to believe from a safety issue that i cant at least open/ lock the doors from the power button on drivers door at least.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks gussie.

Thanks for that info PilgrimIS.

The guy who checked it out said hes nearly 99% sure the back door locks need replacing, ill pick them up from a breakers cheap enough but im still not convinced.

I will ring my local Lexus dealers and ask them is it an option on my car.

As i said at the start i can understand the back doors not opening on the key fob but they should all open on the button on drivers door, just as a safety feature.

All VW's do that too. They dont open from the keyb fob, only the drivers and the passengers doors open and then to open the rear doors you have to press the button on your door card. Sounds like the locks are jammed on yours, if you can open them or gain access to them, spray them down with WD-40 or use GT86, much more powerful but slightly more expensive.

Ill try and get into the locks and give them a good spray of wd40 or similar spray and see if it make any difference.

I can hear the actuators making noise so i know theirs something happening, just not opening.

The place i got it checked said this is a common problem in Audi's but hes never seen it on a Lexus

I have the same problem with my is220d 08. I can open only the driver door from key fob while all 3 others doors can be open only manually from inside but can be all locked though from key fob. Heard its a manufacter settings and can be choosen freely to change on first 6months from the time of the purchase. Not free after. If i try to put my hand on the lever(keyless entry) its flashing and kicking 5 times but again only the driver door is opening. Any tips?

Your problem seems similar to mine just that you have only the drivers door opening.

Mine will open the 2 front doors but not the back doors.

I was in with Denis Mahoney off the M50,they are Toyota/Lexus dealers and I asked about the back doors not opening.

They said "No never heard of a setting to change that".

They wanted 100 euro an hour labour for me to leave it in to them so they could look into it.

If they had said "Yes its a setting" id have paid the 100euro but I wasn't leaving it in for them to go on a fishing expedition at my expense and then charge me 3 hour labour for a 5 min job.

They don't have the Lexus franchise very long so might be worth ringing another Lexus dealers and see what they say.

Have you tried resetting the lock setting on the key fob.

Its in the owners manual.

You stand outside the car, press and hold the open door button on the key fob.(im sure its the open door button cause when I kept the closed button pressed all the windows went down)

Car will beep and indicators flash.

A picture on dash will come up of car with only the drivers door open.

Press it again, keeping it pressed and you should see the picture come up with all 4 doors open.

Try the doors and see if its worked.

I have done this but still only my 2 front doors open, not the back 2.

Its in the owners manual as well.

Let us know how ya get on.

I suspect that if you have the remote locking set to only unlock the drivers door on first press, and then all doors on second press, then due to lack of use the rear actuator or locking mechanism seizes up to the point where the actuators are powerful enough to overcome the resistance.

As above said Vw group do exactly that have you tried it with both keys, one is a master one vw one does one click all doors and boot open other key

requires 2 clicks .

Its a saftey feature for loan drivers so thiefs can not steal off passenger or rear seats.

On the inside back door is a slider when you move that the back doors can only open from outside, its so kids and elderly stay put,

i have never herd of not been able to open from outside. All you can do is double clip fob see if that works Vw group cars do it that way.

My back doors don't unlock unless i open the drivers door, thought it was meant to be that way, same as them locking as you drive off

If I pick anybody up I have to press the button to release the locks

Tried everything what was available here. Still no success. Only driver door opening. Some posts(links) above are for newer models which not apply to 08 model is220d. so no point guys to post it!

This problem it's like i said above a factory settings and looks like more and more, it'll cost you to change it at ur local dealer!

Hope there's still someone on this forum who can solve this issue whithout being ripped off by dealers. Strange how after 7 years model now, nobody spit how to sort this out. Keep the faith guys :-D

To be honest i never heard before this thing about pressing twice for different options on doors opening :-D
