Check Out This Imported Toyota

Recommended Posts

..... they do seem to have some quite unusual stock .......... mostly imported I guess and some with no warranties ......... and not inexpensive either maybe !

I like the Merc 600 2002 but wow, it's quite pricey but just a mere fraction of its new cost......... but the potential bills would be a " killer "

I've said it before on here and I'll say it again. Be extremely wary of importing a used vehicle from Japan. I shouldn't need to point out that Japan is where the world's worst nuclear disaster to-date is still raging out of control, four years on. You don't hear much about it in the news, because the Abe gov't has imposed a media blackout / gagging order - call it what you like.

This car could have come right out of the dead zone. (Many evacuees will have sold all their wordly goods just to make ends meet.) And all those hot particles from the (omnipresent) radiation cloud will have got right into the A/C system, for you to inhale every second you drive the car. (Look what happened to the crew of USS Ronald Reagan.)

Not that there's anywhere totally safe in Japan - they're still burning radioactive debris from the "cleanup" in huge incinerators all over the island - including Tokyo.

So I definitely wouldn't be looking to buy a JDM import post 11/3/11.

OK, laugh at me - I don't care!

I don't think 'Radiation clouds' hang about in one place for years?

Not that the world hasn't got more toxic in recent times. But, remember the Russian 'cloud' that wandered across US-Welsh Lamb wasn't sold for years.......

Though THIS might not reassure you!

hopefully this will work

There was quite a lot of Crowns in Ireland, I remember a friend having a 2.8 in Dublin. I don't remember if it had leather, but the seats in this one looks like the have a lot more than 60,000 miles on them. William

Seats are not really a good method of judging mileage as there are so many factors which contribute to how they look.

Not withstanding the radiation issue, I always thought that Japan has really punishing MOT standards, so cars that would get through a UK MOT would not stand a cat in hells chance in Japan.

I assume to keep the motor industry alive the Japanese need locals to buy new cars every few years, so they need to ship out lots of second hand cars.

Maybe a Gieger counter would be a good thing to buy off e-bay before going to an import merchant.

Mind you some of the cars with that seller look just plain (well) Japanese!!

I would not touch that dealer with a bargepole. He says he imported the car privately for his dad but then says it is a trade-in so being sold as seen ....No Warranty. That rings alarm bells immediately.

I think you will find this dealer t6hinks he will get out of his legal responsibilities by putting all that mumbo jumbo on but it wont. He is still liable under the law of this land and he can put what he likes there but if its not fit for purpose he is liable. Good luck to anyone who tries to get their money back should there be a problem though. Mike

Fascinating pictures Chris - I had not seen those.

OK, the fallout from the initial belch might have settled (remember we're talking about three full-scale meltdowns here), but the plant is still kicking it out big-time into air and sea. And, as I said, there is the ongoing burning of radioactive debris.

So I don't think it would be overreacting to acknowledge some risk associated with JDM imports post-Fuku.

Some work was done by one of the leading (and more respected) scientists in this field, where car air filters from Tokyo were taken and exposed to photographic film. The presence of hot particles was clearly seen on the negative. The comparison was made between a car's air filter and a human lung.

A pollen filter might catch some of it, but you'd still be faced with disposal [of said filter]. This stuff sticks, and builds up cumulatively.

Having a Geiger counter is one thing; understanding and interpreting the results is quite another.

This is a subject that deserves a lot more attention, I feel.

I'm sure that if any real threat was evident then imports of these vehicles would be halted by other countries.

Try this for starters...

Interesting link......mind you with this particular car my initial concern would be image not health.....all you need is the suit SIr Tom was wearing on the Voice last Saturday and you wouldnt look out of place in 70's Harlem
