Is200 Se (2002)

Sad day. My is200SE has done 217,800 miles and I was trying to nurse it through to 250,000. It would have been a milestone for both of us. It now seems that the water I lost from the radiator wasn't a hose, everything points towards the head gasket. £5 the gasket and £1000 to fit it. The garage I use have also been helping to nurse it through since I had it at 45,000 miles so I trust them but know nothing about mechanics. Clearly it's not economic to repair at this point. Any thoughts, please?

It seems destined for the scrap heap which is a real shame - it has a few 'war wounds' on the bodywork but apart from last week when the problem showed itself, it has been a fabulous car.

It's taxed until the end of June.

Thanks for responding. On re reading my post it was a bit of an outpouring.

I've now checked elsewhere and £1000 is about right for a head gasket replacement so that's out of the question.

So my next question is, before selling it to a general scrap yard, is it of any value for parts to any Lexus Club member?

That's it really.
