From time to time i think coolant weeps out of the overflow pipe thats connected to the expansion bottle. I read somewhere that coolant shouldnt really come out of there. Is this a problem? when my car is cold i checked level and it's almost at the max mark, so if the coolant is expanding more than the bottle can hold from the max mark, does that mean there is a problem? surely from the max mark, lexus would have engineered the bottle to be able to hold the expansion amount. Could the coolant be expanding more than the amount it's supposed to?

Mine must have leaked in the past as there's white crust in the area but the water pump is fine and the level is fine - had an issue where the level dropped at the start of last year so I topped it up and have no issues now...

Still keep an eye on it though.

If the coolant is more than half-way between min and max when cold, it will overflow when hot when going round corners or braking.

Oh, so the ideally the coolant should really be half way between min and max marks on the expansion bottle? I always thought if there is a max line, that's where it should be topped up to.

Had same problem and was the expansion vas cap wich has a little gasket that fails under pressure therefore splashing out through the overflow pipe. I did wrapped with a blue very fine tape ( plumbers use it) a couple of rounds to make sure its from there/ before i throw 35 for a new one and success
