Hi all,

I am driving a 2006 is220d. I have abs , afs lights on when start the car. Took the car to a local mechanic he said the abs cable coming from right wheel is damaged. He fixed it , the lights gone but they came back after a week.

Does anyone know what would be the proper fix for this problem please, any good mechanic or had the same problem?

Thanks

Hello and welcome to the LOC.

If you paid your mechanic to do the repair and the fault has returned I would return the car to him and ask him to take another look as the problem would appear not been successfully repaired or correctly diagnosed.

I assume that your mechanic plugged in a diagnostic code reader as the 1st course of action in diagnosing the original problem and this LED him to the fault with the ABS sensor wiring.

Return the car to your mechanic and ask him to take another look at it, it may be another cause this time but the chances are it will be the same problem.

Were the reconnected wires done properly or just twisted together and taped up?

I guess the worst outcome would be a complete replacement ABS sensor complete with the wiring loom and connection plug.

Hello,

When you say damaged do You mean the sensor cable is rubbed through or that that cable has been caught and pulled if so the sensor gap may be incorrect?

I'm not sure off hand how the cable is secured ( Someone else may be able to confirm) if I get a chance in the morning I'll see if I can see on mine - is it front or rear ?

Most abs sensors don't repair to well , also most people check with a digital multi meter this is ok for open circuit and ohm readings but to check operation this has to be done with old school analogue meter.
