Toyota Altezza RS200 / AS200: Specifications
1998 saw the launch of the Toyota Altezza in Japan. A year later the car was exported to other countries around the world known as the Lexus IS200. In Japan the vehicle is available in two basic forms, the AS200 and RS200, with several trim levels for each of the two variants. However, as with the RS200, the basic specification is lower than the equivalent Lexus IS200 but with many options available. The RS200 uses an advanced high revving 4-cylinder engine with either a 6 speed manual transmission or a 5 speed automatic transmission equipped with steering wheel manual gear change known as e-shift. This engine is not available on export vehicles, extra power for other countries being provided by the 3.0l engine in the Lexus IS300. Performance of the RS200 is much greater than the AS200 and there are many after market performance parts available which are lacking on the AS200/Lexus IS200. Fuel economy is very similar between the two models and the Lexus IS200. The main advantage of the Lexus over the both Altezza models is a 10 litre bigger fuel tank allowing greater range on a tank of fuel.
