1998 Gs300 - Fault Codes But Not Engine Light. Poorly Ecu?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I'm having a nightmare getting a new key for my '98 GS300. I took it to Lexus Cheltenham last weekend for a new key with programming and a brake fluid change. They couldn't do either due to my master cylinder leaking and their internet being down... So! They sold me they key for £270 and said they'd pick it up in the week to take it away and have it programmed.

The guy came this morning and said he won't drive it due to the brake fluid leak (fair enough), but he couldn't program the key fully with his portable computer either. It worked for remote locking but not for the immobiliser.

He also noted that there were two fault codes for broken O2 sensors, however, the check engine light wasn't on, although it is working. He said it may be an ECU fault causing the problems with the key, the sensors and/or the light but they'd need to get the car back to the dealership to check.

Is it likely my ECU is at fault? I've been reading here that the capacitors can dry out in some models: http://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls-1st-and-2nd-gen-1990-2000/656360-all-my-crazy-lexus-issues-solved-ecu-leaking-capacitor.html

But it doesn't mention the 2GS as far as I can see...

If not, is there anything else I can check to get to the bottom of this?

Thanks :)
