I've had a 306 DT too - agree, great ickle car, great engine and great chassis!

Me too, my wife inherited for a bit when I got the Lexus.

I couldn't believe how heavy and slow it felt after the Lexus, which is odd because I always thought the steering was really light and responsive.

That said I'd trust the overtaking thrust in places on country lanes where I would trust the Lexus, or maybe I'm just getting old  .

Neil,

in a previous post you have disclosed your full name, mobile number and email address.

I thought it a good idea to remove the self incriminating reference to your speed from these public forums - hence the editting of your (and dazza's) post.

Hope you don't think this is "un-necessary censorship" - as I am defintely not try to censor your post - merely protect you from public confession that could lose you your license.

my worst car was an Opel ASTRA II 2.0 16v, too much electronics problems, too much airbags problems, too much seats problems, etc, etc…

I hate that car, the day Lexus took it when I bought the IS200 I was really really happy to see it disapearing

NEVER BUT NEVER BUY an Opel car !!!

Thanks for that. It was 10 years ago that I did it! :D I should think that the long arm of the law would have got me by now if they were going to!

I'd like to say that now I am less than a year away from the age of 30 that I am a much more careful and considerate driver than I used to be! :D

1978 'wedge shaped' Austin Princess.

In the 9 months I owned it, it needed a new starter motor, new alternator, new driveshifts, packing pieces in the rear suspension to stop the back wheels toeing in, new auto gearbox valveblock to stop jerking on changes and a new power steering rack.

I got a visit to Cowley to watch them being made. Having seen the process, I was **** scared to drive back to London in mine.

One Saturday night while going round Hyde Park corner, I looked fondly at my wife who was sitting nine inches lower than me. The nearside Hydrogas suspension had failed. I reported this to my friend at Leyland who asked me if the radio was working all right. When I told him it was, he suggested that I jack it up and drive a new car under it.

Haven't had too many problems with any of my cars, normal exhaust and tyres etc etc. I had a cambelt break on a Ford Capri but fluked it and had no valve damage so I only had to fork out £11 for a new belt.

The worst was a Rover 416GTi. Excellent Honda engine but electrical problems and the boot leaked. Got rid of it after 9 month for a MKI MR2 - Best decision I have ever made!

My worst car was a tinny Vauxhall Viva. A Wimpy lorry driver had just washed his lorry down ,driven out of the yard to the traffic lights where I was stopped. His wet boots slipped off the brake pedal and he collided with the boot. I had a new boot but the car was never the same again.

My wife only told me 2 months ago how much she hated my Morris Minivan with its seats in the back. It may not have had much image but at the time it was cheap motoring. No would never buy another van.

Without Shadow of a doubt, the worst car I can think of was my Mazda Xedos 6. It never bettered 26mpg which has left me VERY wary of any 2 litre 6cylinder car..

It was not that comfy for a "lux saloon"

It was peppered with stone chips worse than my Lex!

anti roll bars "went" on it...

MOT cost £749 cos of masses of ********* about with emissions

2 Wheel studs came off so I was driving with three studs holding wheel on!

"lost" Second gear! would not engage at all!! (i got caught out palming this off on a dealer as a part ex. they never asked so I never told. wound up having to go back and fork over 500 quid... still not sure of the legality of this but the fu<kers were not the type to be messed with. propper pikeys! I still don't like to drive past there slowly... made me go back at night too... I was pretty scared to be honest. but I bought my Dads BMW off them which has been trouble free so I can't grumble.)

I was going through a lean period and was gonna buy a mondeo but this caught my eye... Worst thing I ever bought that had four wheels.

If you ever get offered a red K reg Xedos 6 with cloth interior. run a flipping mile!

Out of the 22 vehicles I've owned, as a group I'd have to say the French cars were the worst (sorry to our French friends here).

Had two Renault 5GT Turbo's and a Citroen ZX that had all sorts of minor niggles, but the Citroen Xantia 2.0 VSX takes the biscuit!

Bought it new in 1994, then it all started when the car was just FOUR WEEKS old. The gear shift lever came away in my hand as I was overtaking someone on a dual carriageway!

This was followed by....

- complete power steering failure (the fluid p!ssed out all over a car park)

- sunroof leak

- clutch judder after 2,500 miles

- jammed electric windows

- bizarre tyre wear

- condensation in the headlights

- intermittent central locking fault

- ignition key code system that died more than once & left me stranded

- blowing fuses

- loose trim

- corroding alloys after just 6 months (see, it's not just Lexus!)

- suspension problems

Most reliable car? My '97 Nissan 200SX - 85,000 miles and all it ever had was petrol, tyres and routine servicing!

My worst car was one of two, one being my first car:

A reg

Vauxhal Nova

1.0l

Bright red

one lady owner (yeah right!)

rusty, tatty, gutless, ugly, and a NOVA to top it all off!

The next car was no better really:

G reg

Vauxhal Cavalier

1.7d

White

Several Lady owners (mmmmmmmmmmmm....................)

Rotting chassis (didn't know when i bought it), had been in a crash before i got it, had later model lights and grille on it, really tatty paint, and the inside was ruined as well.

So, there we go, my two worst cars!

Stu :driving:

Mmm, let me see, worst car ever,

1st Car Ford Fiest 1.1L - Cheery Bomb Exhaust, massive wheels and tyres off cortina!, everytime you went round a corner at speed, you took away part of rubber on the wing!, got pulled over gos I was speeding and the zorst used to roar at easy 150Db, the nice policeman asked if my name was Nikki F****** Lauder!

Got rid cos I wrapped it around one of those green GPO boxes.

2nd Car Lotus Cortina - got nicked!

3rd Car Capri 2.8 inj - Painted snot green with the logo "Green Meanie" painted onto the sides!

4th Car Capri 1.6 LS - which I modded to the fullest, bored and stroked to 2.1, wills gas filled rings, balanced crank, Dry Sump, Twin 45 Webers (used to suck in small wildlife), HL cam, polished and modded head, big meaty valves, home made exhaust side exit, deep dish alloys running falken 225's. It went very well, until my girlfriend at the time fell out with me and covered it in brake fluid.........bitch!

5th Car Calibra Turbo - got nicked

6th car Capri Bullet - fully loaded, but kept breaking down. Ex track Car in the Falken Tyres Championship. Too difficult to drive on the road!

(had a Yamaha RD250LC at the same time)

7th Car 1971 Mk1 Capri RS3100 - all orginal in lovely BR Green. sold it to a retired tax inspector with a heart problem!

8th Car - Astra GTE Rag Top - Bought as ONE OWNER FROM NEW. Ace Car, bumped it abit when I ran into the back of an AVENGER!, needed some paint doing so I took it in, only to find the damm thing was a RINGER, and after doing a HPI found out it was on the VEHICLE CONDITION ALERT REGISTER and was actually 3 astras made into one, and the VIN was from an astra from Manchester, the rest was from Birmingham! The finance company took me to court when I told em, they lost the case, they took the car back, they refunded my money! I was happy!

at this time, my then fiance stabbed me in the neck causing me to part with her. After a lengthy stay in hospital I returned for my stuff only to find that she had buggerred off with everything I own! So I then had to start again, and entered into the chapter of the **** CARS OF MY LIFE:

9th car Hyundai Pony ! - need I say more, THIS IS THE ****TIEST CAR IN THE WORLD - EVER. Bought the car as a "getmeabout" from my mums scrap yard for 20 quid! Rain leaked in to the heater and caught fire filling the thing with smoke out of every hole and vent available. I cleaned off some bird pooh, only to find it had been tactically dropped some time ago and had caused the bodywork to rot all the way through. The starter motor fell off on a roundabout. the horn used to sound if I went round a corner on full lock, and the drivers seat used to recline when it felt like it. Had cause to break hard for something and broke BOTH suspension struts, looked cool though, very retro, low front end, raised back end. Limped home and scrapped it!

10th car: Knackered out broken down ****box Ford Granada 2.8 Inj Ghia X, 10 Gallons to the mile, tyres from the scrappy every month, every body panel was rotten, made from sheet steel so thin you could read through it, kept it for 2 months and give it away. Last seen in mums scrap yard propping up some more granadas.

11th car Ford Focus Zetec - Still got, thinking about modding it for the track

And now ive enetered into the GREAT CARS OF MY LIFE Chapter:

10th Car IS200 Sport - THE BESTEST CAR IN THE WORLD, EVER

Worst car I have had had to be a 120Y datsun coupe, never wanted to start, and the gearbox was a nightmare until it desintergrated. Closly folled by a BMW 328i se the running cost where amazing, eat tyres for fun as well as pads and discs.
